August

The next three weeks were spent with the both of them silently freaking out, but, for whatever reason, refusing to let the other know. It took about two days after Jordan flew back home for them to realize they had forgotten something pretty important... and not just that once.

There was later that night on the couch after her Dad had gone to sleep and the next day in Jordan's hotel room while his parents were out with his sister.

By the time they'd realized what happened, it was too late for a plan B pill, so for the next two and a half weeks, the two were stuck miles apart, both nervously waiting for her period.

The usually light, easy-going conversation they would have had become strained, almost to the point where Dahlia wanted to just start sending a 'Not Today' text to Jordan every night.

"I can't believe we were that stupid."

Jordan listened over the phone to Dahlia going on and on about how lucky they were and rolled his eyes, slightly annoyed at her glee and relief.

"Getting on birth control will be my 18th birthday present to myself. You still might have to wear a condom, too."

The condom thing might've been a joke, but Jordan couldn't get over how happy Dahlia was to not be pregnant. Like having his baby would be the end of the world.

"I'm serious, Jordan. Look... as reckless and as stupid as we were being that weekend, we dodged a bullet. Next time, you still might have to wear a condom."

Jordan's ears perked at the mention of another round with Dahlia and a wicked smile was on his face as he spoke into the phone.

"Next time, huh? You know next time around I'm in charge, right?"

"..."

Jordan chuckled to himself at the image of Dahlia on the other line, biting her lip in shocked excitement.

"Don't act shy now, baby. Your ass wasn't actin' like this when you were riding me a couple weeks ago."

Dahlia let out a gasp.

"Jordan!"

"It was more of a moan last time."

"I'm gonna hang up on you, Jerk."

"No, don't! I'm sorry baby, I'm just playin', okay?"

"Yeah, whatever. Look... in the future, we have to be more careful."

"Doll, would it be so bad... having my baby?

Dahlia looked at the phone like it was trying to sell her crack at a children's bake sale. She knew there was no way Jordan could be serious right now, but just to be safe, she made sure to choose her words very carefully.

"Jordan, I can't wait for the day when we have a baby, but I know we have to wait. You're it for me, but we've got so much of our lives ahead of us, why rush a baby, ya know?"
