"How could she wanna get rid of our baby, man. Our baby?"

Marcus raised the weight on the arm-curling machine before he sat in it across from Jordan, shaking his head.

"Dude, cut her some slack. I mean, she's gonna have a lot on her plate, having the baby, what-- junior year?"

Jordan nodded as he continued his chest press reps, thinking about Dahlia and their lives once the baby got here.

"Think about it, man: you'll be busy with football, practice-- all that-- plus all your responsibilities off the field as captain... and Lia's just gonna be by herself."

"I'm not just gonna abandon her--"

"I'm not saying you are. I'm just saying... there's probably gonna be times where she wants you there and for whatever reason, you won't be able to be."

Jordan shrugged and rolled his eyes before beginning another rep of biceps curls.

"We did that every day during our junior and senior year in high school and we got through that."

"Maybe that's true, but back then Lia wasn't having your--"

"Hey, guys. What's up?"

Both Jordan and Marcus looked over to see Marisol Gonzalez, leaning against a piece of workout equipment. The cheer squad's co-captain had her eyes on Jordan from the day she saw him during practice one-day last summer. And today was no different.

"Hey, Mare. How's it going?"

As Marisol's eyes drifted from Jordan's arms to his now moving lips, she wondered what it'd feel like to just taste them-- even if it was just once.

"Pretty good. Just trying to whip these new girls into shape."

She nodded back to where a group of girls was either on ellipticals or spin bikes.

"And how's the squad shaping up for next season?"

She bit her lip again, not noticing the suspicious glare Marcus was giving her; her reason for not noticing-- Jordan was aesthetically pleasing, almost to the point of distraction.
