Thanksgiving was literally the next week, and Jordan's mom decided to step in and help a stressed-out Dahlia.Everything was set and prepared, and as everyone passed different dishes around the table, Jordan's dad noticed the eye roll his son had given to Dahlia.
"Jordan... what's up, Son?"
"Yeah, Jordan. Tell everyone what's up."
Everyone at the table's eyes shifted between Jordan and Dahlia, and as Jordan smirked and chuckled sarcastically he nodded and set his napkin back on the table before looking at his father, cocking his head in Dahlia's direction.
"She's just mad that she can't come this weekend."
"It's not that I can't come; he doesn't want me to come!"
"Doll, you know that's not true, babe!"
Dahlia's dad, who had been in town for a week or so, chimed in, with a cautious father's perspective.
"Lia, honey.. the doctor said you should be taking it easy-- no unnecessary traveling."
"Exactly! That's just what I told her."
Dahlia, feeling ganged-up on by everyone, shrugged and got up from the table.
"Whatever. I want pie."
✨
Dahlia had just lobbed a dollop of whipped cream onto a decent-sized piece of sweet potato pie when Jordan walked into the kitchen. She saw him in her peripheral and turned so she wasn't facing him.
Jordan sighed and made his way over to his wife, leaning back against the counter she set her pie on, watching as she took another bite.
"Doll, you know I want you to be there. Babe-- you're the only person I ever need around me."
"But...?"
"But... Baby, we gotta make sure she's okay. I mean, remember what Dr. Hernandez said last week--"
"I need to keep my blood pressure down."
"And we both know how you can get at one of my games, you maniac."
Dahlia smiled a little and Jordan pulled her to stand in front of him. His eyes drifted down and he gently drummed on her belly before he looked back at her.
"Kat's staying too. Why don't you guys throw a little party or something? Invite some people over...?"
Dahlia shrugged, knowing Jordan was trying to cheer her up and as she looked up at him, she nodded with a sad pout on her face.
"Okay... I'm just gonna miss you."
"I'm gonna miss you too, Doll."
Jordan pulled her in and kissed her gently before kissing her forehead, mumbling between each kiss.
"I'm gonna miss the both of you."
✨
"Thanks again, Coach. I know this isn't really something you normally do, but I app--"
"Don't worry about it, Prescott. You keep dominating on the field like you did today, and I've got absolutely no problem getting you earlier flights back into town."
After getting off the phone, Jordan's Uber pulled up to the security gate at his property. After punching in his code, the car was let in and soon, Jordan was unloading his bags onto the sidewalk of the home shared with the love of his life.
He rushed in, leaving his bags at the door before speeding up the stairs, excited to see the only face he'd missed that entire weekend.
When he opened the bedroom door, Dahlia was asleep on her side, her face buried in Jordan's pillow. He smiled and slipped his shoes and shirt off, before crawling into bed behind her, carefully pulling her into his hold.
Dahlia stirred for a moment before Jordan's kisses behind her ear settled her. She looked at the clock, realizing he wasn't scheduled to be home for at least six more hours.
She shuffled once again, sleepily rolling onto her back, allowing Jordan to cradle her belly and kiss it.
"Jordy...?"
"Relax, Mamas. Go back to sleep... I'm home."
