A week later, Dahlia was walking back down the hall to her room with a basket full of freshly folded clothes. As she got closer to her door, she frowned. She could hear Jordan yelling and she could've sworn she shut the door.

"No! ... Absolutely not! ...There's no fucking way..."

Dahlia closed the door behind her, and after leaving the basket on the floor in front of her closet, stood in front of Jordan with a curious look on her face, trying to figure out who in the world he could be talking to.

"Not likely..."

She tilted her head and nodded, looking at the phone but all Jordan did was roll his eyes and shake his head, continuing with his conversation.

Jordan hung up the phone and was immediately met with a forceful slap across the side of his head by Dahlia

Jordan hung up the phone and was immediately met with a forceful slap across the side of his head by Dahlia.

"Jordan, what the fuck?! I know you're not talking to Mom like that."

Dahlia looked at Jordan like he'd lost his mind until he hung his head and she saw the tears beginning to fall.

She stood directly in front of him, letting his tall body tower over her. As she grabbed his face, she saw a vulnerable sadness in him she'd rarely seen.

"Jordan, what's wrong?"

"It's my fath--Tommy's- he's back"

Dahlia's eyes widened as her mouth gaped open.

Randall Prescott was Jordan's dad, the guy that taught him how to fish, how to ride a bike, how to change a tire. The guy who stepped up when he didn't have to. The guy who taught Jordan how to be a man. The guy who was there for every pee-wee football game and practice. The guy who didn't care if Jordan wasn't his by blood.
