"Well, that's the last of all your big stuff. I set your TV to the University's cable network and you've still got some snacks from the road trip. But you and Kathryn, uh, Kat, should go to the Dining Hall later. And make sure you girls go together, these aren't the safest streets at night."
"Dad, relax. I'll be fine, okay? I've got the mace and the taser you gave me. And besides, if I decide to get food, I can just hit up Jordan or something."
Dahlia's father nodded and seemed to relax after being reminded that Jordan was also attending the school. It made him feel a little better knowing he was here with his little girl. He knew how much Jordan cared about his daughter and was trusting him to protect her.
"Alright, well, I'll come by tomorrow morning before my flight. I love you, Kiddo, and I'm proud of you."
Dahlia's eyes stung as she wrapped her arms around her father and buried her face in his chest. She began to sniffle, knowing she was getting tear stains on his shirt, not that either cared.
As the two separated, Dahlia walked her father to her dorm room door and gave him a final goodbye for the night, before turning back to Kat, her new roommate who had just witnessed the entire scene.
"Sorry about that. I'm an only child and my dad can be a little...much."
"Hey, it's alright, I understand. My mom was the exact same way earlier today-- even worse, actually. You're lucky you missed it."
Dahlia chuckled a little before wiping her tears and setting out to put her clothes in the closet.

An hour or so went by and as Dahlia was stringing up some pictures to hang on her wall, her phone began to ring.
As she picked it up, a smile flashed on her face before she answered eagerly.
"Hello?"
"Doll? Baby, can you hear me? Dude, shut up!"
Dahlia smiled at Jordan's frustration at the guys he was apparently with.
"Baby? Can you hear me?"
"Yeah, I can hear you. Where are you?"
"I'm just leaving our evening workout. Me and some of the guys are heading back to the dorm. Did you make it here, yet?"
"Yeah, I'm here. I'm in my room just getting everything set up."
"Can I come over?"
