The Reason - Hoobastank

Chibs POV

-----

I didn't sleep that night. How could I? I was worried something would happen. Someone would bust down the door. As the hours slowly went by, I could only think about the nights I spent staring up at the door holding Mina in one arm and a gun in the other hand. Those nights, as nervous as I was, were nothing compared to that night.

Mina slept soundly through the night, keeping herself against me every hour. I was glad for that. I just wanted her to be happy, to feel safe. Some days, I felt like if I weren't there, she'd be happier, be safer. Funny thing was those were the days I needed her most.

As the sun crept overhead and poured through the window, I felt at ease. The monsters were at bay because the sun was up, if only that were true. Mina's alarm went off, filling the silent air with the sound of an airhorn.

I couldn't take anymore of it after five minutes of it going off. I got out of bed, shaking Mina off of my chest.

"What're you doing?" she asked, her voice groggy. Walking over to her side of the bed, I picked it up, ripping the plug out of the outlet. Throwing it down on the floor, Mina yelled, "What are you doing?"

I slammed my heel on it, muttering, "Stupid, piece of sh*te! Shut the f*ck up!" I kept stomping on it, over and over again until it was completely broken.

"What the f*ck was that?" Mina yelled, sitting up in bed. She started laughing and asked, "What was that?"

"I f*ckin' hate that thing," I sighed. She looked up at me, a cross of anger and amusement across her face. I shrugged, "I'll buy you a new one," throwing my hands up.

She smiled her Chesire grin up at me. Extending her arm toward me, she pulled me back into bed, holding my head on her thigh. "Why didn't you sleep last night?" she asked, running her fingers through my hair.

I lied, "I wasn't tired."

Her fingers gripped tighter in my hair, lifting my head up. "Bull sh*t," she chuckled. "What's going on, babe?" She gently set my head back down on her leg.

"Just worried," I sighed.

"It'll be okay."

Shaking my head, I said, "No, it's not. It's not gonna be okay, love."

"Hey," she scoffed. "Don't you f*cking say that. You said it last night-"

"No, I didn't. I said I wouldn't let anythin' happen to ya." I turned my head to look up at her. "I never said it was gonna be okay."

She leaned down, kissing my forehead. "Then, you make it okay," she ordered. I laughed turning my head back. "It'll be okay, baby. I know it will."

"If you say so, darlin'."

My eyes started to close as she ran her fingers through my hair. She made everything feel calm and okay. That was one of the days I needed her the most. She was too good for me, she truly was, always had been.

She whispered, "Get some sleep. It'll be okay, just get some sleep."

I let my eyes fall the rest of the way shut. She kept stroking my hair as I started to fall asleep. It was some of the best sleep I ever got even though it was only for a half an hour. I looked up at Mina and saw she had fallen asleep too.

I sat up slowly, making sure I didn't disturb her. I gently pulled her down so she was laying the same way on me. A smile crept across her face as she laid down.
