Chapter 81: How You Remind Me

Mina called her dad over for lunch. She missed him and wanted to see if he had any advice for her about what she could do. As they sat at the table, Mina tried to figure out a way to tell him that she and Chibs broke up.

"So, how's Filip?" he asked.

There was the entrance she was waiting for. Mina closed her eyes, hanging her head a little. She whispered, "We broke up."

He tried to hide the excitement on his face. "I'm sorry, my Mina," he sighed, "What happened?"

"He...he cheated on me," Mina whispered. The excitement on his face turned to anger. He hated Chibs even more for that. "But...I don't know what to do."

"What's there to do?" John Michael asked.

She shrugged. "I miss him. He made a mistake and he realizes it and he's trying to apologize."

He sighed, rubbing his face. John Michael was convinced Chibs was the scum of the earth, even before this happened. He didn't understand what his daughter saw in him. After a few moments of thinking, he looked up at her.

"Remember when you were a kid, Mom would make her super spicy chili and it always made me feel like sh*t afterward but I still had it every time?" Mina chuckled and nodded. "Just because you enjoy something doesn't mean it's good for you."

"But, he's not Mom's chili, Dad."

John Michael leaned forward, getting close to her. "Then, what was he?"

"He was fun and kind, and caring, and sweet. He was everything I ever wanted," she whispered.

He sighed, "And he was until he wasn't, right?" Mina nodded, looking down at the floor. "Trust me, my Mina, you're better off without him."

She shook her head. "But what if I'm not? I spent the past ten years just scraping by, doing nothing. I wasn't happy. I hated my life. This past month, I finally felt alive again. I haven't felt that way since before Stefan."

"And you really think after what he did you can get that happiness back?" John Michael asked.

Mina didn't think about that. She didn't think about how it could work getting back together with him, what it would look like. Would things go back to normal or would there be an elephant in the room?

John Michael left a while later. Mina sulked into her bedroom, flopping down on the bed. Burying her face into the mattress, she let out a groan, trying to figure out what to do. Mina fell asleep, thinking about Chibs.

Someone was banging on Chibs' door, jolting him awake. He dropped his bottle, shattering it all over the floor. 

"F*ck," he muttered, looking down at the glass and whiskey that crawled over the wood. The banging got louder and he stood up, cracking his back. "Aye, I'm comin'! I f*ckin' hear ya!"

Jax stood on the other side of the door. "Where have you been?"

"Here," he scoffed.

"We have sh*t to do, Chibs!"

Chibs laughed, "Like what? We're done for the day."

Jax chuckled, "How long you been asleep?"

"Since I've been home," he sighed. "Why? Did somethin' happen?"

"How about sixteen hours?" Jax smiled. "Let's go, man. We got a lot of sh*t to do."

Chibs was barely awake listening to Jax talk about going to see Jarry. He grabbed his cut and his keys and walked over. Holding his keys in a fist, he pointed at Jax.
