Daughter - Pearl Jam
Mina POV
------
"You're really gonna carry her in that?" I asked Chibs as he strapped on the baby carrier to his chest. He nodded, not looking up from the straps. "The whole time?"
"Aye," he scoffed. "The whole time."
I laughed, shaking my head. "When she gets too heavy, I don't wanna hear about it. Okay?"
He leaned into the backseat and got Cait out of the carrier. "C'mere, darlin'," he sighed, lifting her up to put her into the one on his chest. She was facing him and put her head against his sternum, falling asleep again.
We walked into the market and I grabbed a cart. Chibs walked next to me, bouncing a little to keep Cait relaxed. Walking through the store, I grabbed everything we'd need for the week. I had to get flour so we went into the baking aisle. When I turned back, there were two cookie mixes and a brownie mix sitting in the cart.
"What's this?" I laughed, picking them up.
Chibs turned around and said, "Cait did it. Ask her."
I chuckled, "The one-month-old who doesn't have teeth?" He nodded, looking down at her. "Blaming your kid," I said, shaking my head. Cait started crying and yelling. "You upset the baby."
"I did nuthin'," he sighed, bouncing her a little more, but that wasn't helping. "Wanna take her to the car and I'll finish up here?" he asked.
I shook my head, "No, you can," with a smirk.
"Fine," he chuckled. "Ya better get those," he said, pointing to the mixes. As he walked away, I heard him say to her, "Aye, I told her. We can only hope she does. What else d'ya want me to do about it, love?"
He loved talking to her and having one-sided conversations as if she was actually responding to him. I think he mostly liked it because I couldn't say 'no' to Cait, even though it wasn't her asking for anything. I finished shopping and as I walked out to the parking lot, I could hear Cait screaming in the car and Chibs trying to calm her down. I did feel bad about how she was acting for him
I opened up the door and he looked up at me as he held Cait against him. "Come here, sweetheart," I sighed, taking her from him. She kept crying as I bounced her a little, taking a few steps in the parking lot. "You're okay," I whispered. Chibs loaded up the groceries as she calmed down.
"How'd ya do that?" he asked. I just shrugged, not sure how I did it either.
"She's probably hungry," I said, putting her in the car seat.
Chibs laughed, "Well, I can't help with that."
He opened up my door for me and then got in the driver's seat and drove us home. Cait started crying again on the way back and nothing would calm her. Once we got home, Chibs said he would bring the groceries in if I wanted to take care of Cait.
I carried Cait up to the nursery and as soon as I sat down in the rocking chair with her, she relaxed. After I fed and burped her, I laid her down in the crib and heard Chibs walking up the stairs. Stepping out of the room, Chibs was standing in the doorway, leaning against the frame.
He had his arms crossed over his chest and his head resting on the wood. I slithered my arms around him, enclosing my arms around his midsection, pulling him into a hug. I pushed him back a little, making him stumble back for a step as he wrapped his arms around me. Squeezing me tighter, I inhaled the smell of his cologne that I loved so much.
He leaned down and gave me a quick kiss, stealing it. I laughed, walking down the hall, pushing him backward. He leaned down, kissing me again, longer and more passionate than the last. As we descended the hall, I unlatched my arms and slid my hands up his chest. Once we were in the bedroom, I launched Chibs into the wall, ripping his shirt open, sending buttons flying.
