Something in the Way - Nirvana

----

Her phone began to ring, sliding around the desk from the vibration. "Hello?" she asked, with a mouthful of food.

"Mina? It's Gemma from Teller-Morrow."

She swallowed. "Hi, Gemma! How are you?"

"I'm pretty good," she sighed. "There was more wrong with your car than we thought originally. It's gonna need another day or two."

She closed her eyes, silently groaning. "What else was wrong?"

"There's a hole in the oil pan and a leak in the radiator. That's why the lights went off and it struggled to start up."

Mina sighed, "Thanks, Gemma! When do you think I should come in to get it?"

Gemma laughed, "Chibs said he'd give you a ride over."

"Oh?" she smiled. "Did he?"

She chuckled, "I'll have him call you when it's done."

"Thank you!" The call ended and Mina couldn't stop smiling. Even when she tried to force herself, she couldn't do it.

Another coach walked into the office. "What're you so smiley about?" she asked Mina.

"Nothing," she sighed. She looked at Mina, knowing she was lying. "Nothing!"

As giddy as she was, she couldn't help but kick herself. Less than a week prior, she hated the sight of any of the Sons. She tried to wrap her head around what happened in the past week to make her change the mindset she had for all of these years. Since the day she lost her mother, she hated them. So, how could one thing, one person change all of that?

She finished her lunch, thinking about her mom, how she lived, how she died. Mina looked exactly like her mother, which made it hard for her father to look at her. Long, dark brown hair and deep, ocean blue eyes. Her smile was her own though. Mina grinned from ear to ear when she smiled. Her mother had a simple smile, like the Mona Lisa. A sly smirk, making her eyes crinkle in the corners.

Mina missed that smile. The Sons took that from her. They took her mother from her. A stray bullet from one of their guns killed her. How could she think about them in a positive light when they destroyed her family? She began to wonder about where the bullet came from. What if it came from Jax's gun? Chibs'? What if he was the one who killed her mom who had the Mona Lisa smile?

She rubbed her thumb over her tattoo; 'be strong,' the words her mother said over and over again as Mina laid in a hospital bed healing from her accident.

Hearing her mother's voice, as clear as day, tears filled her eyes. The bell rang and she got ready for her next class to come in.

It had been two days since she heard from Gemma. She called TM after not hearing from her or Chibs at all. All she wanted was her car back. After the thoughts of her mom and what they did, she couldn't think of them the way she wanted to. The man who answered the phone, Chucky, said it would be ready the next day. He said, "It's been a trying few days."

What the hell does that mean, a trying few days?  she thought.

"Aw, hell," he groaned, lifting his head off of his pillow. He hoped his twenty-minute slumber would be enough to keep him going. His head was pounding as he sat up. Grabbing the bottle of whiskey off the table next to him, he took a swallow.

There was a knock at the door, then it opened up. "Chibs, we're going, man," Tig sighed.

He pulled his boots and his cut on before walking out. He had no idea what else could be coming their way. The day before the IRA killed Filthy Phil and V-Lin and Otto killed Marshall Toric before he was shot. What was going down today, he wondered walking out of the clubhouse.
