Paper Scratcher - Blind Melon

Mina POV

-----

Chibs left early the next morning. He had to do something up at Diosa with Alvarez and then go to TM. I was in the shower before he left and he leaned in to kiss me goodbye.

I heard the doorbell ring as I stepped out of the shower. Wrapping the towel around me, I walked to the front door. A sheriff stood on the outside. He kept his hands on his belt and looked away from me.

I asked, "Can I help you?"

"Sorry to bother you, ma'am. I need to bring you down to the station for questioning," he said, still looking away from me.

"Regarding what?"

He said, "Lieutenant Jarry will explain it to you at the station."

I looked in at the house, trying to figure out what I was going to do. I figured it was just questioning, so I nodded. "Okay, let me go get dressed."

I started closing the door when he asked, "Do you mind if I step inside?"

"Um, sure."

Everything in my gut knew that I shouldn't have let him in, but something in me knew it was the best course of action. Chibs told me what to do in these situations, and I was already going against what he said to do.

After I got dressed, I walked back out. He was standing by the door, his thumbs hooked in his belt. We walked outside and to the squad car. I'd never ridden in a police car, let alone in the back of one. I was hoping I wouldn't ever ride in one again.

Walking inside, I felt everyone's eyes on me. I wasn't really sure why I was there other than questioning. I sat in an interrogation room, waiting for Jarry. After what felt like hours, she finally walked in.

"Sorry about the wait," she sighed, sitting down across from me. "We just have to wait for someone else who wanted to be here for this."

"Who?" I asked, adjusting in my chair, crossing my legs.

The door pushed up and Charlie walked in. "Sorry I'm late," she said sitting next to Jarry.

"What're you doing here?" I asked. "What the f*ck is going on?"

Charlie pulled something out of her jacket and set it down on the table. "Katherine Hewson, ATF," Charlie said as if we had never met.

I had no idea what to do, what to say. I stared at her, mouth agape. "You...you're...since when, Charlie?"

"After," she simply said, putting her badge away.

"We just want to talk to you," Jarry said.

I looked toward her. "Charlie know about your...arrangement with the club?" I asked.

Charlie looked from me to Jarry. "Arrangement?"

I tried to contain my laughter and fear. One of my best, oldest friends was a federal agent and I had no idea. I brought her into my house, close to Chibs. How much did she hear from the two of us in the two weeks she stayed with us?

"Oh, you didn't tell your ATF buddies that you were on the take from the club?" I laughed. "That'd be the first thing I'd tell them."

Charlie bit her lip out of frustration. She looked at Jarry and asked, "This true?"

"Yes, but I'm no longer taking the money. I gained a lot of information."

"And money," Charlie groaned, rubbing her forehead. "What did you tell them?"
