Chapter 18: Routine

═════ ⚖ ═════

~Erwin~

She wasn't kidding, she showed up exactly at 7 in the morning knocking at my door. I had already been ready and waiting for fifteen minutes. Upon opening the door, I took a small step back to take in her little outfit. Shorts and a tank-top with a jacket over it. It seemed that no matter what she wore she always looked the same. Angelic.

As we walked down the stairs together, we talked amongst one another. The conversation was nothing of importance just more small chat until we made it outside. And that's when the jogging began. During this time we were mostly silent but would start talking again when we reached certain corners to cross the street and had to slow down a bit.

After a few blocks down it turned into more power-walking, this way we could talk more as (Y/N) brought up Zeke. "He's been working from home lately. A lot of people think he's sick but he's a pretty healthy guy," she says.

"Well at least he's not bothering you, I mean he's eventually gonna come back, and when he does I don't think it'd be a good idea staying in your office," I suggest.

We stop at another corner, watching the cars pass, I then shift my gaze onto (Y/N) as she drank from her water bottle, "What's gonna happen then when the fundraiser is over and I don't have Hanji's office to hide in? Because she won't be there for long after," she informs me. Damn, she must be heading back to Emerside to be with her friends. I only knew of Hanji through Levi.

"Have you thought about finding another job, one that he doesn't own?" I then ask I believe I had asked this before but she was hesitant at the time.

"I have, it's just... I don't know the pay is good, and the other people there are nice and everything, but honestly I don't know what I'd really want to do next,"

"What have you been interested in?" I ask, slowly now we walk across the street.

"I used to be really into photography but after trying to start a business with that, it kind of failed. I took this job hoping to learn from it but instead turned out to be someone's maid," she explains.

It made sense, it was hard for people to start a business here in this town if they didn't have the funds for it. But I hated it now that she was stuck working for this prick in the hopes to learn something when all he wants to do is use and abuse her kindness.

~(Y/N)~

The talking stopped for a bit as we continued to jog around town, eventually about an hour or so we went to a local diner, they were having a bit of a rush this morning so we had taken the seats along the counter. All while eating, I couldn't help but think back to what Erwin was saying, about finding another job. There were plenty of other companies in this town probably more than willing to give me a job and actually teach me something. But... to be honest I also was afraid to leave some of my work friends there. Especially the women with who I was friends.

All this time I had been taking on Zeke's harassment mostly to save the other girls, and if I left, who would they have protecting them? I couldn't let them suffer like that. "So what left do we have to do for the fundraiser?" Erwin asks.

Now out of my own head, I look at him after taking a bite of food. Covering my mouth I answer, "Well- I plan to go and check the venue, then I need to make sure the decorators get there on time so they can begin,"

The blonde nods in response, then suddenly some random girl comes up to us. "Erwin? Oh my god, hi! I haven't seen you since you left to work at the precin-"

"Excuse me, but weren't you headed to pay?" Another much older-looking gentleman comes up interrupting the woman. He had medium-length hair that stopped at his shoulders, and a thin beard lining his jaw. He kind of gave off cowboy vibes. He then looks at us and smirks gently, "So sorry to bother you, here it's on me," he says handing me some cash.

Confused, I watched as he walked away toward the woman where he seemed to be whispering something to her. "What was that about?" I ask. Shifting my glance to Erwin, he shrugs it off and goes back to eating, slowly I do the same but keep my eyes on the blonde to see if his expression would turn. I wonder what that woman was talking about, I don't think she could have the wrong guy unless there is another Erwin she might've mistaken. Eventually, I brushed it off and finished my plate of food.
