One Hundred Sixty Three

Quidditch tryouts
It was rescheduled for today, last night Slytherin had theirs
Draco was still on the team, along with Montague and Pucey
Crabbe and Goyle made it as their new beaters
If we didn't have Fred and George I might have been intimidated watching them
I watched their tryouts with my old team members and Hermione
Draco looked like he was enjoying himself flying around on the field with his two of his best friends

I grabbed my uniform
I haven't used this since my third year
I could still smell the grass stains that would forever embed themselves in my elbows and knees
New uniforms were provided for the team members every year, I think I'll keep these though
I had one of my best years that year, I met my real dad and met Sirius
I crawled out of my shell and into who I am today because of that year

I put the shirt on first, the uniform was bigger than it was last time I wore it
I had more muscle then, I lost all my muscle and some pounds when I went through what I did over the summer
The pants fit the same way, baggy on my thighs and ass
I looked in the mirror
I can do this

I began walking downstairs, I expected everyone to be down on the pitch already
Try outs started at 10 this morning, it was already 10:09
But when I got downstairs I saw Fred was waiting for me
  "Still here?" I questioned

  "There's no way they're going to find a better duo for beaters. Angelina said so herself, she became captain for this year. But I also wanted to be sure I walked with you today, I know it'll be hard to be there. I want to be here for you"

  "Thank you" I said smiling

He put his hand out for me and I took it
He brought it up to his mouth and kissed the back of my hand softly
  "Let's go"

I didn't know what Fred and I were
He's been sweet to me this year, like he used to be
This is the Fred I fell in love with, not the one who showed up drunk at the Ball
The one that stopped caring
I knew this Fred, this is the one who helped me when I didn't want it
The one who loved me when I didn't deserve it

"Do you think I'm going to get the chaser position again?" I asked when we rounded a corner leading to the field

"Yes, I have no doubt"

"What if I can't handle being on the field"

"Then I have the most beautiful girl in the stands cheering for me"
He looked at me with his fire eyes, I never noticed how much they resembled dragon's fire until now

"You guys ready??" Lee said running up to us

I broke our eye contact and smiled at Lee
"Are you announcing this year again?"

"Who else would? There is no one better for the job" he said smirking

"I pity them when you graduate, no one can compete"

"Maybe I'll get a job as the announcer" he said laughing

"McGonagall would love you annoying her for the rest of her career I'm sure"

The field came into vision
It was more vibrant than the last time I was here, that night the pitch was turned into a maze it was darkened
Quidditch brought its true colors out
There was a slight breeze, I noticed it was from the new keepers flying around the stadium
I saw Ron in the mix, he expressed interest in being on the team, if he could hold his anxiety in I knew he would get the role

I looked up at the stands and saw Hermione sitting beside Dean Seamus and Neville
She was nose deep in her books, but the others were cheering and laughing whenever someone fell off their broom

I walked up to Angelina who was staring at the possible new keepers
She gave me a hug
"Hello Cora glad to see you. Chasers are next, I want you Katy and myself to be chasers still but it's protocol when we have multiple people wanting the position to run a try out. Do you think you're up to it?"

"I do" I said

I looked around the stadium and saw the other teams watching tryouts
I saw Draco right away, he waved at me
I waved back

"Slytherin has a good team this year" Angelina said

"So does Hufflepuff" Harry said

"Diggory is worse than Wood" George said "we watched their tryouts before this, he's determined to win"

"So are we" Fred said

Angelina blew her whistle and called down all the potential keepers
"Results will be posted later today in the common room"
Ron dismounted near us but then went to sit with Hermione, waiting for the chasers to go onto the field

There was a lot of them this year, but I knew if I could just get passed my nerves I would do fine
I took a few deep breaths, remembering what Professor Trelawney told me
I felt emotions from everyone around me, but I focused on the positive ones
Warmth from Fred and sweetness from surrounding friends

I walked to the center of the field and grabbed my broom
The same broom my dad gave me that belonged to my mother
It was worn out, but I loved that about it
It had character, it was the only thing I had from her

I clutched my dragons' scales while I waited for our signal
First would be a speed test, then catching and controlling the Quaffle, finally it would be dodging Bludgers

I heard her signal us, I took off
I lead the group by a long shot, Katy was the only one who kept up with me
I stayed out of my own head, I focused on the feeling that quidditch gave me
Freedom
Like riding Cor

When we got to the bludger portion, only myself and Katy remained
Unlike the keepers who she didn't eliminate, she did with each chaser she felt didn't bring anything that we lacked

"I don't think this part is necessary" she said to Fred and George who were about to mount their brooms

"Lame" George said chuckling "I was just getting ready to pelt Bell"

"As if you can catch me" she said back

I laughed at their bickering, Katy and Ginny broke up from what I heard but it wasn't out of hate
Ginny just fell for someone else, and Katy did too
Angelina to be specific

"George touch my girlfriend with that bludger and you'll be missing your favorite body part" she said walking up to Katy who dismounted next to her

"I'd love to see you try to get my left ear" he said back

"Why the left?" Katy asked confused

"It has a freckle that Fred doesn't, makes me the better looking twin" he winked

She pretended to throw up
I laughed again

"Katy and Cora are my chasers, I knew that before and know it again now. The only one who I have to make a choice on is keeper" she said holding Katy beside her

Fred walked up to me
"Good job" he said kissing the top of my head and holding me into his chest

I looked around the stadium, I saw Hermione clapping for me as did the rest of my friends
But when I looked at Draco, he wasn't clapping anymore for me
His warmth he felt for me turned bitter
