Two Hundred Sixty Two

"A code word? What did he think was going to happen that would demand a code word for us...I should have read this earlier"
I mumbled to myself
"I wish I had said more to him when I saw him. He put his heart into this note and I didn't even give him the respect to read it"
I folded the paper up nicely and placed it in my pant pocket, I had one on the inside I kept important things in and that's where this went

I got off the ground, stretched and started making my way back to where our tent was
Charlie was looking at Norbert who was sitting on the egg
"How can you tell it's close to hatching?" In all my time with dragons I hadn't experienced a dragon egg

"The parent will lay with it less, the baby won't need their heat when it's close to breaching. You'll start to see cracks the week of" he looked at me "you ok?"

"Do I not look it?"

"You were captured by the enemy"

"I've been through worse"

He nodded his head
That was the best thing about being partnered with Charlie. He didn't linger on problems, he also didn't nag me. He told me his peace and then moved on
"Bill's wedding is in a few days. They moved the date because of what happened with you. It worried them that they wouldn't have time to actually marry one another. We are going to leave for the burrow tonight"

"Will they be ok?" I saw Norbert bringing the egg to the cave, back to the nest it was originally placed on

"Norbert won't leave the cave with Cor gone now. The fact that he left the cave in the first place is annoying" he said looking at his goofy dragon "but he's pretty much a single parent now so he won't go anywhere unless we are around"

I began packing my bag, I didn't have much but whatever I had I didn't want to go missing. Charlie took down the tent and placed it in his own bag
"We're going to be there for a few days, until the wedding is over. Then we will all be back on our own missions"

"Everyone is going to be at the burrow? For a few days? Dangerous isn't it?"

"Yeah well it's not my idea of a safe event. Bill is adamant on this and well mum is too"

"I shouldn't go. I can stay with Norbert and the baby it's fine"

"Why wouldn't you go?"

"Your mum hates me and Fred probably does too now"

"I sent everyone a patronus about what happened to you right away. We had an emergency meeting, Fred wasn't there. When I asked George and Lee about his disappearance they said he was out looking for you on his own. He didn't want help he wanted to find you he was worried. Take that information how you will, you know I won't tell you what to do"

"I wish he would give up on me"

"I don't think Fred's given up on anything in his life"

"He gave up on school"

"You got a point there" he lightly shoved me

Later that night we apparated to a forest close to the burrow. We had to walk the rest of the way, but I didn't mind
It was peaceful walking late at night, especially when the moon was losing its fullness. I wish I could love that planet like everyone else seems to, my favorite nights are when the moon is completely gone and only he stars are shining

"Charlie what would you be doing if we weren't at war?"

"The same thing I'm doing right now, except our group would be bigger"

"I'm sorry if this is too personal but...have you not wanted to find someone to share a life with?"

"I don't really care, I have had plenty of hookups as you know" I rolled my eyes, memories of when we found ourselves at dive bars and Charlie was nowhere to be found came forth "but no one has stuck out to me. She will have to love dragons as much as I do, this job takes a lot of personal time"

"Someone like me?" I batted my eyes at him

He rolled his own making me laugh
"Yes but without the you part"

"I have feelings you know"

"One, you've fucked my brother too many times for me to even want to go into that territory. Two you're in love with a death eater. I would say your love life is worse than my nonexistent one"

I didn't retaliate
I couldn't, he knew I was in love with Draco and wouldn't hear me say otherwise
If me saying no to Fred's proposal didn't seal that for me, it was me defending him throughout these years even though his absence upset me

I heard pops of Apparation and what sounded like wind from port keys ahead of us
I looked at Charlie confused
"Port key?"

"Not sure, no one would use that unless there was an emergency"

We both began running the rest of the way to the burrow, where we saw someone getting dragged inside the cottage
The person was red headed and tall
Fred or George who's hurt

When we got close enough we were both stopped by Arthur
"Charlie what did I tell you in your 7th year of school?"

"Keep the twins in line, I failed at that pretty hard"

"You're good, Cora what year did you first stay at the burrow"

"Going into my fourth year"

He nodded his head and pulled me in for a hug
I never had a bad relationship with Mr.Weasley, he was kind to me even when his wife wasn't
"Glad you're ok"

"Thank you, what happened?"

"The order heard a rumor that Harry has been watched. We figured he would be targeted on his journey to the burrow. We weren't going to risk him getting injured with Ginny next to him so they took a port key to get inside the barrier. Fred George your father Moody and I went to meet with them to escort the group to the port key location but when we got there death eaters were waiting already. A fight broke out and well" he looked at the open door leading to the burrow "George was injured, we were surrounded by at least 30 death eaters. The one who got George we believe was Severus Snape. He used the same spell that Harry used on you your last year in school. Fred grabbed George and apparated him here but I haven't a clue how he is now. He might have been splinched in the process"

I gasped
"Everyone else is ok? Poor George..."

"Yes we are" my dad came to Arthur and i and pulled me into a tight long hug
"I'm so glad you're safe sweetheart"
