Two Hundred Seventy Three

Days went by without word from Kreacher, but things were less awkward with my friend group
Hermione and Ron seemed better at remembering that there were two other people in the house with them. Harry shared when he had a vision which was only once since we asked him to be truthful with us, the vision wasn't anything to get excited about. Voldemort was in a meeting with his other death eaters but Harry claimed he didn't hear anything that was said. He also claimed he didn't see Draco, I didn't ask but he felt the need to add that in. Meaning he definitely saw him

We all took turns keeping eye on the windows, we saw more death eaters patrolling than when we first arrived. Harry explained that Ginny and him were never bothered here, it's possible they didn't think anyone would stay in the center before. The raid made us all spread out, now everything is being watched.

I worried about Fred, George too. They were in Diagon alley, a spot that was heavily guarded and has been for years. How the two of them have managed to not be captured was beyond me. I thought of my dad, any day now Tonks would have my sibling. Someone I wouldn't be able to meet for a while, could be years by the way our mission is heading. I thought of Charlie who was in Romania alone now. Without me I'm sure he went to find other dragon riders, but the egg that I knew Norbert wouldn't leave behind was there still. I couldn't even letter or patronus him asking for news of the baby dragon.

I saw two death eaters race off towards the east of our building
"Odd" I said out loud

"What is?" Hermione walked to my side
Both of the guys were busy rummaging through Regulus' things trying to find more clues again

"The death eaters took off after—" I began to speak but heard the front door open and then close

Hermione and I grabbed our wands and faced them in that direction
"Who's there?" I said in my most intimidating voice, loud enough that the two upstairs could hear

I heard footsteps run towards us, Harry and Ron were booking it down the stairs to find out what was going on
"Remus?" Harry said

I raced to the front door, there standing with his hands up was my dad
The full moon would be arriving next week, he looked as rugged as usual around this time
I went to go hug him but Ron pushed me back
"Wait" he said

"I was your defense against the dark arts teacher in your 4th year, Cora is my daughter" My dad said to our group

"Not good enough" Harry said pointing his wand

"Good I would have been worried if you took that answer only" he winked at me

"Explain this photo to me to prove yourself" I said pulling out the photo I found in Sirius' room and showed it to him

My dad smiled softly and put his hand out for the picture
I passed it to him cautiously
"I'm glad this exist" he looked lost in a memory "your Mum, Sirius and I were a couple for some time. You were meant to have all three of us as parents but fate deemed otherwise. You are her baby and my own, Sirius was a bonus dad"

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" I felt my dad's love push through to me
A warmth i invited in

"It didn't seem right to tell you when so much was going on, I hoped to explain it with Sirius after you accepted our relationship...then time got to us and we never had the moment to share our story with you. I'm sorry" he looked directly into my eyes, he was sincere I could tell without reading him

I walked passed Ron and pulled my dad in for a soft hug, he squeezed me tightly
"I'm glad you made it out ok" I said to him

"I'm glad you did too sweetheart" he kissed the top of my head

"What are you doing here is everything ok?" I asked

We led my dad to the main dining room, Hermione made us all tea

"Yes, Ron your family is doing well. Everyone is still safe your parents are at your aunts while your brothers are scattered at various places. Harry Ginny is with her parents, she's doing fine her and the baby"

I saw both of them sigh with relief
I knew Harry worried about not being around Ginny daily

"Where have you been dad?" I asked

"Tonks parent's with her" he took a long sip of his tea, avoiding my eye

"Is my sibling ok?" I felt a panic hit my chest with his silence

"Yes"

I waited for more but he didn't give any out
"Yes? She's got to be almost there right?"

"She had your brother the day of the failed wedding"

My friends all congratulated us, but I didn't feel excitement
There was something he wasn't telling me
"What are you hiding? Why are you really here?"

"Can't I be here because I miss my daughter?"

"I miss you too but it's risky to be coming back and forth here. We've been watched since the day we arrived" I sat back in my seat, I let myself open my mind to emotions and felt he was anxious about something "why are you anxious?"

"Reading someone's thoughts is quiet rude" he said trying to joke but I didn't laugh

I raised my eyebrows waiting for his response

"I've come to join you on your journey. I promise when i transform I'll stay in the attic, ill keep away during that day. I won't be a burden I want to help you three"

"You're needed with my brother" I said

"I'm needed with you. I haven't been there for the past few years and I'll be damned if I'm not now"

"But Teddy needs his dad"

"He's got his mum"

"No"

"No what?"
Hermione and Ron excused themselves from the dining table, Harry stayed

"You're not leaving him with Tonks. He needs his dad and mum"

"You need me more"

"I don't. I'm an adult he's a baby"

"Let me help you, you're my daughter and I'm worried about your safety. Can't a father be worried?"

"You're running away that's what you're doing"
Harry got out of his seat now and awkwardly moved to the living space
The thing about that space was it was still in ear shot of the dining area so it wasn't like we were given much privacy

"I'm not running away"

"Go be a dad"

"I am being one"

"I didn't get the privilege of growing up with you. I'll be damned if Teddy suffers like I did. We don't know how long this'll take, could be years. He needs his father, I don't"

"I already told Tonks and she agreed"

"Because she had no choice, im sure she'll be happy to have you back"

"Cora please"

"I needed you growing up and you weren't there" I felt myself getting emotional "I don't need you anymore" I said finishing the argument

"Too bad im staying"

"Get out"

"No"

"I said get out!!" I slammed my hand down onto the table
I felt tears falling down my cheeks but I didn't remove them, I let each fall down onto the table
My dad went to hold my hand but I pulled it back
"You were a lousy father to me. Don't let that be my brother's fate"

"Fine if that's how you see it" he stood out of his chair and shoved it back
The back door opened and slammed shut, he left without saying goodbye

I knew my friends wanted to come comfort me, but I pushed myself out of my seat and walked to Sirius' room
"No one is allowed in" I told the enchantment
I comforted myself the way I always knew how, alone
