Humanity.

Perceived weaknesses and inadequacies -
You've picked apart your humanity,
And you don't like what you've found.
I know you've scrutinised it to the extent
That it doesn't feel like
You are human anymore,
But anything examined in such detail
Could be deconstructed to the sum of its parts.
Either we must take everything or nothing
At face value or not:
Either you are human,
Or humanity is just a collective word
For imperfection, for weakness,
For the desire to become passionate again,
Like we all once were.
Your cynicism has oft pushed me to play
The optimist, and here I am once again -
It does not come naturally to me,
Not until I see that you need it;
Not until you take your perceptions
Of what it is that you are
And say things
That I will never allow anyone to say
About you;
About someone I love.
