Orchids.

Daisies spring back up
When trampled underfoot -
That is how they thrive.

Alas, there are also orchids
That need the utmost care and
Tenderness in order to survive.

For every orchid, it seems as though
There are one hundred thousand daisies,
And thus those daisies are the norm.

When an orchid cannot rise back up
After being squashed,
It is therefore met with scorn.

The orchid is asked why it can't be
More like a daisy,
And thrive independently.

Little do the daisies know that the world
Is built for them, as they are
Typical; they are everywhere.

All the daisies know is that so few orchids
Are able to bloom, thus - when they do -
They're used as proof that orchids can live here too.

No matter what the orchid does,
Sometimes it needs more space, more water,
More fertiliser, to flourish.

Yet, the daisies do not need those things,
Therefore they assume
That the orchid doesn't either.

When the orchid begins to perish,
The daises will call it over-dramatic,
Or claim that perishing is all any orchid can do.

The daisies do not listen,
When the orchid tries to tell them that's not true:
The daisies never listen.

An orchid in bloom is a wonderful sight,
And much rarer than it should be.
Any bulb could be an orchid,
Thus all should be treated kindly.
