I know you can't sleep tonight,
So look into my eyes-
What do you see?
The past is not going to change,
Though you may ruminate over it
As much as you choose;
That antique camera within your mind is
Rattling through rolls of film,
How many times have you seen this?
You know precisely how it ends.
You know it all- the future, the present, the past...
Every line is etched into your heart,
Every twist in the plot is familiar to you,
Yet you cry every time that you see that heart break;
You ponder each word as if you've never heard it before.
What wilful ignorance, what sorrow, what bliss:
Your hopes rise and fall like the tide,
And you let them.
You taunt the waves ever closer, only riling up
The storm...
We both have seen this all before.
We know how it goes, how the water continues to rise,
The onset of panic, heart pounding, hands shaking;
The film is coming to an end.
As your icy body lies broken in that ocean,
I know that you can't sleep tonight.
You look into my eyes,
Then rewind it back to the beginning
So that you may die once again.
