Why did she suggest a video call again? Taylor couldn't remember but she had to have been in a different mood back then. Now she was sitting in her hotel room preparing for the video call date with Travis Kelce. She absolutely didn't feel like socializing anymore but it had been her idea, so she couldn't cancel now. Maybe she was just nervous? That was at least a reason for her to change her outfit several times before sitting down in front of her MacBook. She was early but only because she was scared to be late.
One minute after the time they had agreed on, he called her. She didn't want to seem like she was waiting for him, so she let it ring a few times taking a deep breath before picking up. "It wasn't a prank", was the first thing he said. "Oh, sorry, I'm sorry. Hi", he immediately apologized making her laugh already. "Hi", she just said looking at her picture to make sure she was perfectly in the frame. "How are you? And where are you? What time is it for you?", he excitedly wanted to know. "Sorry, too many questions, just pick one", he added a bit nervous. Taylor giggled again. "It's like eight pm, I just had dinner", she answered some of his questions.
"Wait, are you in your podcast set?", Taylor noticed. "Oh, only true fans recognize that", he joked meeting her humor once more. She didn't expect him to be that funny. He also seemed just as nervous as she was and that weirdly calmed her nerves. "I hope you're not recording. I really don't want to call my lawyer after our first conversation", she said. "I doubt that anyone will believe me that we even texted but I don't have anything to prove. Don't worry", he smiled surprisingly honest. She smiled back at him not knowing what to say to that.
"Sorry but did you put a filter on your camera or something?", he asked. Taylor anxiously checked her settings but she didn't get what he meant. "N-no, why?", she mumbled insecurely. "It's just... your eyes are so blue", he completed her blushing visibly. But Taylor felt her face getting hot too giggling like a teenager. He was so sweet and just so upfront. "Thanks, I guess", she finally answered. "Now that we are talking about beautiful things anyway, you wanted to tell me how you manage to play incredible three-hour concerts", he came back to what they were texting about when they agreed on this date.
Taylor shook her head because he just didn't stop complimenting her. Covering her red face with her hands, she tried to breathe for a moment. This was so different from what she had expected but she liked him already. "Do you really wanna know that?", she questioned. "Yeah! Why wouldn't I? I bet you're running like a half marathon every night while singing! How long did you even have to practice all that?", he honestly asked. She was surprised that he seemed so interested, so she allowed herself to ramble about her training and how the concerts work. He listened attentively and Taylor didn't feel like he got annoyed at all.
Every now and then, he asked some questions that she answered gladly. They continued to talk about his training and what they were doing in their free time if they ever had some of that. Taylor forgot everything during this call. He was so interested in her and he also wasn't shy about sharing stuff about his life. And they weren't just talking about the sunny side of it all. Some of the darker topics came up too even though they avoided getting too deep into them on their first date. Taylor was honestly surprised by herself that she was so open to sharing some of her anxieties with him. Probably, it was because he was doing that too.
After almost three hours, Taylor couldn't hold back a yawn. She thought he didn't notice but he didn't look away once tonight. "You should probably get some sleep. Do you play tomorrow?", he asked. "Yeah. Tomorrow and the day after. Then we move on", she explained having this sparkle of excitement in her eyes that he noticed every time they were talking about her concerts or making music. She was still so passionate about it that he was just stunned by it. He didn't know what he was expecting but tonight topped it anyway. It just felt like they understood each other so well. Of course, their careers and lives were different but they had a lot of similarities too. He felt just as passionate about his sports for example.
"Oh, then I'll better let you sleep. Would you... consider another call sometime soon?", he wanted to know how she felt about tonight. "Yeah, I'd like to repeat this! Let's text about the time?", she suggested. "Sure. Good night Taylor", he smiled making her smile too. "Good night Travis", she said before they ended the call. Taylor let out a whispered happy screem. It was too late to actually scream in a hotel room. Still smiling, she quickly texted Blake that they had to talk tomorrow before getting ready for bed. Blake wasn't in bed yet, so she immediately wanted to know how it went. "He's so sweet. I'll tell you tomorrow. Have to get some sleep", she quickly answered. "I'm excited! Good night", her friend texted before they both put their lights out to go to bed.
