Taylor was still in Canada when Travis got a call from Tree some evening. He picked up worriedly and a bit confused. There wasn't a show today. Taylor should just be resting. "Tree?", he asked as he picked up. "Travis", she said in a tone that made him swallow. Not from worry now. She sounded like she was mad at him and he felt like a child getting caught stealing treats without even knowing what this was about. "You are planning a secret party for Taylor and didn't tell me about it", she said. A small breath left his lips. He was glad it was just that but still. "I... I was going to! I just wanted to plan everything out", he explained. "Wait! Does Taylor know? How did you find out?!", Travis immediately realized that someone must've told her. "She doesn't know. I have my sources", Tree just answered dryly. "Travis, why didn't you involve me? I think this is a great idea, she deserves it and I want to know everything", she told him, her voice calmer now.
Travis took a deep breath and sat down again. He hadn't even really noticed that he had jumped up from the couch before. "Well... yeah. I... I wanted to make it her birthday party and also like a... end-of-an-era thing. So... I guess I'll add you to the planning group. Selena and some other friends are helping me already. We have like... lists of... everything at this point. The longer I think about it the more ideas I come up with", he explained blushing a little. "I heard you are planning an eras-themed kinda thing. So... any problems I can help out with right now?", Tree offered. Travis felt so good having her blessing now and so he explained everything to her. From the drink menu to the props and who knew about it at that point.
„So currently, I was thinking, maybe we could get a small version of the Eras Tour stage. Probably not the shape but like these screens as a floor. And I have no idea where to even start on that", he told her about his most recent idea and problem. "Sounds good. I'm sure she'd love that. I might have an idea of who I can ask for that. If you want me to...", Tree offered her help on this particular project. "Please! And also... I don't know if Taylor suspects anything yet. I'm like... not the best liar, really", he admitted. "I don't think so. She was just telling me that she was thinking about inviting people for her birthday but that she doesn't want to fly out for it. I think she just dreams of staying at your place for the rest of the year. You must be doing something right", she chuckled.
"Oh... well... what do I tell her then?", he wondered. "I'll keep her from planning anything for a little longer and then you can like... ask her if she has anything planned yet when she's back, which she won't have, and then you invite her to dinner", Tree came up with a plan immediately. "Okay... yeah, sounds good. I'll have to practice that", he joked. "Just plan a dinner for a different day that you can think of while talking to her. Then, you're not technically lying and just mixed up some dates", Tree said with a shrug. "Is lying like your job or something?", he asked smiling about how quickly the publicist could come up with things like this. "I wouldn't say lying", Tree laughed. "Anyway. I'll organize a dance floor for you now", she said. "Okay, thanks! Then... have a nice day", he smiled before they ended the call.
Travis just said there for a second and shook his head. Tree had always scared him in a way but now he could see the friend Taylor had found in her. Having help from her would probably make things a lot easier too. Maybe he should've asked her earlier. If someone would be able to get pretty much anything he could think of for an Eras Tour party, it was Tree. He also still didn't know how Tree had figured it out but he suspected Taylor's security team. And he didn't judge them. He was glad that they took their job as seriously as they did. They already knew about his party plans from the beginning and had given their okay for the location. Overall, everything was falling in place quite well right now. He just needed to be able to keep Taylor in the dark for a little while longer.
That worked surprisingly well because she was emotionally focused on her last few shows. What outfits she wanted to come out one last time, what surprise songs to play and who she hasn't talked to personally yet to say thank you. She was also spending her time wax-sealing the last round of bonuses for her crew and trying to really be in the moment so she could soak it all in before it would end in just a few days. There was also a few things to plan out for the last shows because there would be a camera crew around.
Travis wished that he could be there for the last show and this wish only grew bigger every day he remembered that he wouldn't be because of his own schedule. He would have to wait for her to come home. And he was already planning that too. He'd have her favorite food ready, her coziest blanket on the couch, everything prepared for a bath, scattered some candles around the place and just everything ready to help her arrive home and feel whatever feelings would come with the end of a tour like that.
