One day after the charity event they attended together, Travis had a meeting in town while Taylor just hung out at his place. Tomorrow, Taylor would have to go back to New York for some more practice while Travis would stay in Kansas until he'd meet her in Paris for her third show. Almost two weeks they'd have to be without each other and Taylor already missed him. She had no idea how she should survive the rest of her tour when he'd be on training camp for the next season. Her thoughts were interrupted when her phone started ringing.
Confused she picked up. Why did he call her now? "Trav?", she asked. "Tay! I, ahm... I found a kitten in the parking lot", he explained audibly stressed. "A kitten?", she questioned. "Yes. Now... wait... two, no three", he seemed to discover more of them. "Okay? And now?", she wanted to know already getting up from the couch. "I don't know! You're the best cat lady I could call", he explained why he had called her. "Okay, pick them up. Like hold them in one place so no one will drive over them!", she said picking up some keys. "I'll find a box or something and come to you. Send me your location. And if you can, look up the next vet", she explained. "Ok. I should have a box in the garage. Don't drive alone!", he told her. Taylor rolled her eyes but went to get her security. She didn't know if they had to bring the cats somewhere immediately, so she should really not leave the house alone.
Her security found it quite funny that they were going to rescue some kittens. "You here soon?", Travis texted her. "Almost there, hold on big guy", she joked. In the parking lot, she was surprised at how small the kittens were. He had found a fourth one in the meantime. "God, they're so tiny!", she exclaimed worriedly. "I don't think there's a momma cat to these", he thought watching her taking two of the tiny ones in her hands. "Someone dropped them off", she sighed convinced looking around. "There", she noticed an open plastic bag. "Can you make sure there are no more in there?", she asked her security. He agreed and went to check the bag looking out at Taylor at the same time and also checking under some cars on the way. Travis struggled with the other two kittens. "What do we do now?", he asked. "Take them to the vet and go from there. They look okay but they're too small to be alone", she said gently pressing them against her body to calm them down and warm them up. He mirrored her movements and the four little ones calmed down.
At the vet, everyone was in love with the tiny kittens. Taylor's security didn't have much to do. The babies were much more interesting than her. The vet checked on all of the tiny kitties and found them to be okay but very young. They probably wouldn't have had their eyes open yesterday. "You can take them to the next shelter but I'm not sure if they'd have the capacity to get them all through", the vet explained honestly after giving them some vaccines and tiny different colored collars. "What do they need?", Taylor immediately asked not noticing Travis' small smile. She'd keep them and he knew that. At least until they'd be somewhere where people had time to take care. "There's special kitten milk they probably will need at least every two hours for the next week. They should be kept warm too", the other man explained knowing full well who stood there in front of him and that she was the definition of a cat person. "Okay, where could I get that around here?", she continued to ask. When they knew everything the kittens needed, for now, Taylor, Travis, and her security left with the box of four kittens again.
"Trav", Taylor began when they were in the car again. He looked at her with the box in his lap and a soft smile on his face. "If they don't have enough time at the shelter... just... if they stay there... what if they won't make it?", she asked visibly worried. "Tay... I know what you mean but... do you think we have enough time?", he asked carefully. She knew that they hadn't. Her eyes began to become shimmery with tears and he immediately took her hand intertwining their fingers. "I won't give them anywhere if I know they'd die there", she mumbled despite not having a better idea. "I'll ask around, okay? I know a couple people here. Let's get some milk for now and then we go from there, hm?", Travis suggested. "We keep them until we find a better place for them to stay", he summarized. Her eyes light up in disbelief. "Really?", she asked grinning like a happy child. "If I didn't care about them, I wouldn't have called you in the first place. Let's go now", he assured her and so they made their way to get some kitten milk before going home.
