When Christmas came around, Taylor and Travis hadn't seen each other for almost two weeks and they still needed to wait until New Year. But she had given him a tiny package saying it was his Christmas present and he'd have to wait to unpack it. He hadn't given her something yet but she just assumed he'd have someone else place it somewhere like he had done it a few times now. But he had to disappoint her there. He didn't have a present for her to unpack. Travis had something else in mind but he wanted to see her reaction to not finding anything anywhere first.
When he unpacked her little package though, he felt bad for his plan because she had given him a USB stick with her new album on it. He thought about listening to it immediately but he couldn't abandon his family while they were still unpacking presents. They also asked him to listen together but he had promised Taylor to not show anything to anyone and not say a single word about any of the songs afterward. Later that day, he finally called her. "Tay, I haven't had the time yet but I'm so impatient! I'm sure it's a great album!", he told her. She smiled at him but still wasn't sure if someone just forgot to give her his present or if he actually didn't have anything for her.
"It's a double album by the way but don't say anything about that to anyone", she said. "What? How long is it then?", he wanted to know surprised. "Thirty-one songs, about two hours", she told him still a little confused if he would ask about a present for her. He heard that she was excited to talk about the album but she had something else in her mind. "Trav, I... if you... I mean, I don't expect anything just because its's Christmas but... if you had anything and maybe gave it to someone to give it to me then... because you have done that before... I just... If you had anything it's not here. But if not that's okay! Just... I just...", she stuttered making him smile to himself. She was so cute. "Tay, you can stop now, I didn't try to get anything to you", he let her know. She was silent then. She didn't want to be disappointed because he had given her presents on other days but it just felt strange. Especially after giving him such a personal thing. Her next album. He let her wait for a moment.
"Tay, I have something for you here. And it is something I can't bring to you", he finally said. "Travis! Don't play with me like that!", she laughed kind of relieved. "I'm sorry. You're so cute. Of course, I have something for Christmas", he answered. Now he became insecure and Taylor instantly noticed. "So, I know this is a lot and I'm sorry if it's too much but... you know the empty corner of my living room?", he started. "Yeah...", Taylor said carefully. "And... we talked about you bringing a guitar here and... I also always loved... just like looking at a piano, you know?", he continued. Taylor got a sense of where he was going with this but she liked it. "I put one there. Like... not a grand piano but a piano. I had some help finding one and now it is there against a wall. I put a guitar holder there too and an armchair. I don't know I just... I wanted a space for you to write", he finally explained making her smile widely. "Can you show me?!", she immediately asked impatiently.
Travis was relieved hearing her happy. He had been scared that this was too early because she had been so scared when he accidentally made it feel like they were moving in together a while ago. "Sure! Give me a second", he said sending her a picture he had taken the day before when he had been at his place. Taylor was surprised at what he had done to the corner that had been so empty before. Also, he had decorated the piano with flowers and a candle for the picture. It even looked like he took the picture when it was dark, so the light looked super cozy. She couldn't wait to see it in person. "Wow! That's... it's so beautiful!", she laughed in disbelief. "Did you decorate that? It's so cute!", she added. "Ahm... yeah, I... I wanted to have a good picture because I couldn't give you a package to unwrap", he said. She sighed. "I wanna kiss you", Taylor said feeling the ache of missing him grow. Travis smiled. "I love you. And I miss you too", he answered.
They continued to talk for a while and ultimately decided that Travis would wait to listen to her album until she was with him again. He felt like he wanted to hug her afterward and just be with her because it was obvious to him that everything she went through over the past few months and years had been hard. And of course, she had written about it. He just knew that it wouldn't be easy to hear about all that, so he wanted to be by her side. Taylor understood that but she also knew that she would be nervous until he had listened to the whole thing. His songs should've been the actual Christmas present but she couldn't rip them out of the album and show him just these songs. But now she had to wait so long to show him "So High School". She added it to the setlist draft too and wanted to put as many references in the performance as she could. He had said that he wanted to visit her at practice if he could and she was so excited for that.
Imagine getting the chance to listen to a new album and having to choose between doing it immediately or waiting to listen to it with Taylor. Could you wait?
