And then, the VMAs came around. Travis couldn't be there but Taylor sent him a picture of her outfit before going out. "Damn! I wish I could be there", he answered with a winking emoji. "Make sure they don't tie that corset too tight. I don't wanna have Tree text me that you fainted", he added shortly after. Taylor smiled about his concern. "I will. Gotta go now. Love you", she quickly wrote and gave Tree her phone then. They had to get to the carpet now. Walking along the red fabric, Taylor concentrated on where to look and how to walk. The outfit gave her a certain vibe she wanted to meet but it seemed to work.

Inside, she met Jack and a few other friends before soon finding their seats. Taylor immediately knew that as soon as the cameras were rolling, one would be pointed at her for the whole time. She usually didn't bother too much anymore but today, she sometimes just felt so observed. And suddenly the dress felt tight. Too tight. Taking controlled breaths, Taylor managed to breathe through the anxious feeling a few times but at some point, she knew she needed a break, or else she would break down entirely later.

Tree knew how to get her out for a bit and brought her backstage. "Thank you. Can we get the backup dress ready?", Taylor asked. "Sure, do you need anything else? I'll get some water for you", Tree said after closing the door behind them. "No, I'm good", Taylor said. She went to the bathroom. Then she drank a glass of water and took some time to breathe and calm down entirely before getting ready in the other dress again and going back out. "You good?", Jack asked without words. Taylor nodded at him with an honest smile. She was now. The break had been needed but for the rest of the night, she managed to mostly ignore the camera.

She also was back in time to accept the first award for Fortnight with Post Melone. Of course, they both had big words for each other, and Taylor gave Austin the best opportunity to call her M'am again making everyone laugh. At the second award, Taylor had planned to direct a few words at Travis, so she smiled widely while thanking him for being at the set of the music video, applauding after each take and also letting the world know: "That one person was my boyfriend, Travis. Everything that man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic, so I wanna thank him for adding that... for adding that to our shoot. Because I'll always remember that." Another thank you was directed at her fans and soon they left the stage again.

Taylor felt good about mentioning Travis. She knew he was going to be surprised and happy about it too. And he deserved this more than anyone. So, of course, there were some messages waiting for her afterward. In the meantime, she had had some drinks and danced along with the musical acts. It turned out to be a really fun night after all. His main point in the message was for her to call him though, so she did as soon as she could. Parts of her team were around backstage too but she didn't really care. "Hey, baby", she giggled when he picked up. "Tay. Thank you so much. I never would've expected this", he said immediately. "Well, you deserve it. You made it the best time on set!", she emphasized again. "I love you. I wish I could be there to celebrate. Have a good party, okay?", he told her. "We will. I love you too. Will be home soon", she smiled. "Be safe", he wanted her to make sure. "I will", she assured him and threw him a kiss. He threw one back and then they ended the call, so she could go and celebrate the awards.
