Around noon, Tree came around so they could take care of Taylor's Instagram post about the election. Travis heared them at the front door and immediately put his work down. "Hi", he greeted Tree with a short hug and then pulled Taylor to his side. "Hi, I've heard you read the post?", Tree asked while taking her shoes and jacket off. "Yeah. I asked Tay if she wanted me to give any public reaction", he explained. "Oh, I don't know about that. Let's at least wait for a couple of hours", she suggested. "Yeah, I thought that too", he agreed before they went to sit down on the couch together.
"One last read or just posting it?", Tree asked Taylor. "I can't read it again now", she said and was already copying the text from her notes to Instagram. "This picture", she showed Travis the one from the TIME magazine shoot with Beji on her shoulders. He just nodded. His arm sat around her and he tried to be calm for her because she really was shaking a little. Of course, he was a bit nervous about the reactions too. Taylor's opinion on politics wasn't something she had never talked about publically but she was at the top of her career for now. There were so many eyes on her already. He was honestly a bit scared for her safety. But Travis knew that Taylor had thought this through carefully and talked with her team and especially Tree. He wouldn't place any doubts in her head now.
"1...2...3...It's out", Taylor counted before hitting the post button and immediately throwing her phone aside shaking her hands to cope with the rush of uncertainty that hit her. "Oh my god. Not easier the second time", she mumbled. Travis placed a hand on both of hers and kissed her head. "I'm proud of you", he told her making Tree smile a little. The publicist was glad that Travis was this supportive. She could imagine that this was nerve-wracking for him too but he tried to stay calm for Taylor and it helped. "This is the right thing. It's good", Taylor told herself out loud. "Yes, you're fighting for equal rights, of course, that's right", Tree agreed. Travis nodded. After a few more minutes of handling the anxiety, they started looking for some reactions. Taylor was a little surprised by how much the people cared about her "childless cat lady" signature compared to the rest of the text but there was an overall supportive vibe coming from her community as always.
A couple of people let out their thoughts on Twitter but it was manageable for now, so Tree soon went home to work from there for the rest of the day. Taylor promised to not look at her social media unless there was someone with her and Travis was glad they were all doing okay for now. "How do you feel?", Travis still asked when they went to bed later. "Relieved that it's out now. Still a little anxious about tomorrow. And the VMAs. Like... maybe I shouldn't have posted it right before an award show I'm going to attend?", she told him honestly. "I think, the VMAs have great timing because maybe that can take some attention from your political opinion back to your art", he said while getting into bed too. "Maybe", she shrugged and cuddled close to him immediately. Travis put the lights out and hugged her. "Wake me up when you need to, okay?", he asked. She nodded, so he kissed her head. "Good night, Allie", were his last words for the day, then they both fell asleep.
"This is so disgusting! Did he read his own words?!", Travis raged after reading Elon Musk's Tweet about Taylor's political statement that said something along the lines of he could give her a child and would protect her cats with his life. She felt disgusted too. "I... I read a couple times that he may have meant his daughter that he doesn't accept or something? Like... in a you-can-have-them-cause-I-don't-want-them kinda way", she said. "Oh, I hope that is what he meant and even that would be so stupid and disgusting", Travis continued to pace the kitchen. "I guess he was high or drunk", she assumed. Travis didn't answer. He wanted to tell that man something. Punch him in his stupid face maybe. There had been digs like that against Taylor before that he had witnessed but for some reason, this felt different. Personal. Maybe because it wasn't a nobody in his basement writing it but Elon Musk. "Am I going insane or is he basically threatening to rape you?", Travis turned to his girlfriend again. Taylor sat at the kitchen table texting back and forth with Tree every now and then.
His words made her look up. "I... don't think so... I mean... It was a bad joke but it was still a joke, wasn't it?", she said now insecure herself. Travis sighed before noticing how the fear slowly crept into her eyes. "You'll just never meet him", he decided and sat down next to her. "Sometimes I can't choose who to meet at events", she said. "But you're never alone there. Whatever the place or time, I will make sure this man never gets to even be in the same room as you", Travis stated and took one of her hands in both of his. She looked back at the phone that was still in her other hand. "Tree is doing her magic, he might take the Tweet down", she informed Travis. "Doesn't really make a difference now, does it?", he asked honestly. Taylor agreed silently and got up to climb into his lap. He just hugged her tightly and they sat like that for a while.
