The four cloaked figures then placed their hands on their chest and begun to chant. "O universal light, sea of stars! O stardust ones whose souls have lost their way. The endless night shall be illuminated, by that pale and shining first magnitude star! Let us offer up our own light, to protect that eternal radiance!" Everyone seemed to join into the chant as they either clasped their hands or placed one on their chest.
After the chant was finished the figures bowed. "Thank you all for singing along." They thanked as one stood up fully to get everyone's attention. "Everyone, we are all tiny little stars merely floating in the enormous expanse of the universe! But even if your light is dim, there is none other like it. And each and every star... Has enough brilliance to to guide any lost and wandering souls!" They said as everyone seemed to look at them in agreement.
"Polaris." "Vega." "Canopus." "Sirius."
"May the brilliance of the celestial guardians fall upon you all! Now, let us sing! Everyone together now!" Just as a figure said that they all removed their cloaks to reveal the previous p4 all dressed up. You three froze up in your spots as Edward was mostly shocked at Greenhill. "Greenhill?! His hair!!" He exclaimed as your eye twitched at all the young attendees shouting their names, your ears were starting to ring. "Without further ado, please listen to our new song! 'Shining star'!"
-
They finally finished up as your sighed. "That is no damn carol." You groaned as you turned to your brother and Edward. "What are the upperclassmen doing... Even Violet is there! And he's never danced before.... Not even at the party the eve before the cricket competition! Incredible!!" He exclaimed as you gazed at the stage and the four with a glare, cautious of the almost perfect setup.
-
"That was a really lively and intense performance..." Edward commented as you all walked out of the hall. "Yeah." Your brother agreed as he didn't seem to be listening to him essentially. "When they said carol I thought we we're going to do the same thing we did when you first took me." You commented as the boy chuckled, "Guess not. I didn't even know they did this every now and then." He agreed and seemed to freeze before turning pink.
"What? Is there a heater nearby?" You asked as you turned around and looked until you saw your butler with two women glued to him. "B-butler! Wheat in the blazes are you doing?!" Edward exclaimed as the women laughed. "Oh wow, you really are a butler, mister!" "Dragging such a young master out to enjoy the night life. Aren't you the naughty one?"
"I just want to go home..." You groaned to your brother as you rested your head on his shoulder. "I know, I know." He sighed as he patted your back. "How shameless! You are on duty!" Edward shamed the man who seems unfazed.
"Oh my, pardon me!" Sebastian apologized nonchalantly as the woman with darker hair laughed. " My my, your face is as red as an apple, how adorable!" She cooed as Edward got irritated at them.
-
"I see... So that's what happened." Sebastian muttered as he served you three tea. "Yes, it was nothing like opera or ballet performances, in terms of both song and dance, it was of a completely different genre." Ciel confirmed as you all told him what happened inside the hall, especially the performance.
"On top of that, the audience were singing along and moving their hands. I've never seen such a spectacle like that. The song was so catchy that you got the urge to hum it." Edward added as you tilted your head in thought.
"I mean... I know someone whose seen 'carols' like that and everything. But, I've never really seen one myself until now." You commented as Sebastian put down the tray. "Could it be... This type of song?" He asked as he began posing (HELP ME I CANT) and singing the line of the song.
"Why do you know it? Did you sneak into the concert hall?!" Edward questioned the man who shook his head. "Not at all. I actually-" "Excuse me! Sorry to interrupt!" Agni apologized as he held a tray of pastries.
"Would anyone like a late night snack?" He asked as Soma appeared from behind him. "Agni's homemade sandwich are amazing!" He added as you nodded and Agni placed the pastry into the saucer for your teacup. "Hey, hey. That song the butler just sang, is it popular in England or something?" Soma asked as you raised a brow.
"What?" "When Agni and I went to the market, I kept hearing people singing it! Little kids, too!" He clarified as you hummed. "Hmph, I knew it." You muttered as Ciel turned his head to the butler. "Sebastian, that's the song you heard from that prostitute, right?" He asked as the man winked.
"Yes indeed. And it seems that she in turn heard it from her friend in the same profession." He confirmed as Edward raised a brow. "What do you mean?" He asked "The literacy rate amongst England's proletariat is very low. Therefore, one can conclude that the most effective way to spread information is through oral means. However, unless it is something fo great impact to them, humans will soon forget about it. So if there were a way to more successfully allow people the remember the oral information, it would be through song." Sebastian explained.
"So basically, that song was made to spread some kind of dogma?" Edward asked as the man nodded. "It is very likely." "Ah, it seem like there were any dogmas or threatening intentions in that song, though... The lyrics just seemed to be all about stars and starry stuff." The boy hummed with a hand on his chin as you spoke up after finishing the snack.
"They could be trying to make themselves look friendly and approachable to gather more people. If more people come, more business will come. However, that congregation does not collect money. To add to that, the fortune teller is handing out pure silver bracelets for free, hell! Mine is pure gold with fucking diamonds! And the thing is I don't have a clue about his motives!!" You shouted in an irritated tone as you held up your bracelet.
"Oh, regarding those bracelets i gathered some great Intel. I borrowed these bracelets from the men who chased me out. I inquired about them in town." Sebastian informed as he held up the bracelets and explained what the woman has told him.
"An event that requires the bracelet?" Ciel asked with a raised brow as the man nodded. "Yes. An open access Saturday gathering for anybody. And a restricted access event for those that have had their fortunes read." He confirmed as your brother tilted his head. "Perhaps Elizabeth is there?"
