When Lin Ran woke up, she felt an explosive pain in her head, ten times worse than a hangover. Opening her eyes, she saw a clean white ceiling and felt a soft mattress beneath her.

She propped herself up and sat upright, pinching her thigh hard. The intense pain reminded Lin Ran that she was indeed alive.

Just a few minutes ago, she had been shot and killed while protecting her employer from danger. How was she suddenly alive again?

Frowning, Lin Ran's body moved before her mind did, heading to find a mirror. What she saw reflected was still her own body—slender and quiet, with a hint of aloofness in her eyes. Her red lips were slightly pursed, and her long, ink-black hair was messily draped over her shoulders, adding a touch of laziness to her appearance.

Lifting the hem of her nightgown, Lin Ran revealed a tattoo of a blooming rose on her abdomen, not out of personal preference, but to cover a scar. The tattoo and the scar were still there, confirming that this was indeed her own body. But how had she, after being shot, suddenly appeared here?

Just as Lin Ran was about to search the room for more clues, a grating mechanical voice sounded in her mind, "Hello, Host . The card-drawing system has been activated. System 33 is at your service."

Lin Ran looked around but soon realized the voice was coming from within her own head.

"No need to look around, dear. I'm stored within your body. Due to your excellent physical fitness and combat skills in your previous life, the card-drawing main god system deemed you suitable for survival in the apocalypse, thus transporting you into this book," the mechanical voice continued, making Lin Ran feel uncomfortable.

"You're saying I'm in a book now? How do I get back, or rather, how do I survive here?" Lin Ran was no longer tense. As a qualified private bodyguard, she had a strong psychological resilience.

"You're very smart. However, you have already died in the normal world and can never return. Being chosen by the card-drawing main god system means the main god has granted you a second life. Cherish it, dear. If you die again in this world, you will be completely dead," the system's mechanical voice tried to sound cute, making Lin Ran even more uncomfortable.

Lin Ran nodded and continued, "Do I have to complete any tasks? What do I need to do?"

"No tasks needed. The card-drawing main god system won't assign any tasks. Your only goal is to stay alive. By the way, the planet Q2 where you are now will face the apocalypse in five days. Prepare yourself quickly. Also, this book only has half its content written. I have transmitted the original text to you. You can study it at your leisure."

With that, the system went silent. Lin Ran's mind indeed contained half a book now. She still had questions for the system, "System? 33? Don't I have any cheats? How does the card-drawing work?"

The room remained silent, with no response from the system. Lin Ran tried calling out a few more times, but the system still ignored her. If it weren't for the half-book in her mind, she would have thought this was a hallucination before death.

She sighed and sat on the edge of the bed, wondering if she could find anything useful in the book. However, after just a few pages, Lin Ran couldn't stand it anymore. Despite the book's post-apocalyptic setting, it was filled with clichéd plots about the female lead and her numerous admirers. In her current identity, she was nothing more than a doormat to the female lead, Mo Shuyu. Later, when Mo Shuyu sought refuge with her, the original Lin Ran thought her good days had arrived, only to be betrayed and killed by Mo Shuyu and her other lovers.

Lin Ran frowned at the absurd plot. Even in the apocalypse, the original character remained a doormat, and it served her right to be killed. The female lead, Mo Shuyu, was even more ridiculous, juggling multiple alpha admirers. She decided it was best to focus on survival and stay away from the female lead and her drama.
