It was hot, so Lin Ran and Mo Shuyu got off their motorcycle, while Cheng Yanhong opened the car windows slightly to ventilate the vehicle. In such sweltering weather, staying cooped up inside was unbearable.

Lin Ran and Mo Shuyu stood by the car, watching the others move the vehicles while Lin Ran kept a close eye on the surroundings. If any zombies appeared, she would have to protect the others.

Progress was slow, and the people in the minibus grew increasingly restless, talking non-stop inside the vehicle. The heat, combined with their anxiety about being stranded after dark, led to some arguments breaking out.

"Aren't those cops a bit too slow? When will we ever get to Jiangliao City?"

"Yeah, it's already past four. If we keep delaying, it'll be dark soon, and there'll definitely be more zombies. That's too dangerous."

"They're doing their best. Can't you see how hard they're working outside? If you think it's too slow, why don't you get out and help?" A female alpha, fed up with the complaints from some male alphas, spoke up.

"What's it to you? Why don't you go help instead of lecturing me?" the bespectacled male alpha retorted.

"Yeah, stop acting all high and mighty. You're just like the rest of us, wanting to get to Jiangliao City as soon as possible."

Seeing the tension rising inside the bus, Xiao Li and Xiao Wang quickly stepped in to calm things down.

"Alright, everyone, let's all calm down. I know it's hot, and everyone's worried about getting to the city before dark. We're doing our best to clear the vehicles, so please be patient and don't argue over something so trivial," Xiao Li said to the people inside.

The bespectacled male alpha, still irritable, responded, "Officer, it's just that you're moving the cars so slowly, and it's dangerous out here. I'm worried there'll be more zombies after dark."

"Please understand; we're trying to be as quick as possible," Xiao Li continued to reassure the passengers.

Meanwhile, Lin Ran heard noises coming from a building near the toll station. It seemed that dozens of zombies had been drawn by the commotion and were now charging toward them.

Lin Ran quickly called out to Cheng Yanhong inside the car, "Auntie, close the doors."

"Okay," Cheng Yanhong replied, hurriedly shutting the doors.

Amid the chaos, Lin Ran discreetly summoned her Tang sword again. The female police officer, seeing Lin Ran and Mo Shuyu still standing outside, called out, "You two shouldn't stay out here. Get back in the car. We've got it covered."

"Can the four of you handle that many zombies? Go calm the others; we don't need help here," Lin Ran replied calmly, glancing at Ding Tong. It was rare to encounter someone so kindhearted in the apocalypse, but people like that often had short lifespans.

Ding Tong noticed how composed Lin Ran and Mo Shuyu were and saw that several windows on the bus were still open. She quickly instructed, "Everyone on the bus, close the windows. Driver, shut the doors. Stay inside and don't get out."

As she spoke, Ding Tong and Xiao Li, along with Xiao Wang, drew their guns. Zheng Li also quickly got out of the car, wielding both a machete and a handgun.

"Captain Zheng, I only have two bullets left," Ding Tong said, tucking her gun into her waistband and retrieving a machete from the SUV.

Xiao Li and Xiao Wang followed suit. They had already used up most of their ammunition on the journey, and each of them now had only two or three bullets left, which they had to conserve.
