Lin Ran ignored the messages and continued to eat her pork. After finishing her meal, she put on rubber gloves, quickly washed the small pot and chopsticks, and then went to her room, locking the security door behind her.

She turned on her computer and opened the surveillance feed. Dozens of small windows appeared on her screen, each showing a different view. She clicked on one, and the hallway of her building was displayed, allowing her to see everything happening outside her apartment.

She placed the crossbow on the floor beside her and lay down on the bed.

After a day of intense activity and a sleepless night, Lin Ran fell asleep quickly. She wasn't worried about the residents breaking in. It was only the second day of the zombie outbreak, and everyone still had some supplies at home. It wasn't time for home invasions yet. Besides, her door was sturdy enough that it couldn't be easily breached, even with explosives.

Meanwhile, Mo Shuyu also took a nap with her daughter Ruan Ruan. It wasn't until Cheng Yanhong finished cooking that she woke Mo Shuyu up.

"Xiaoyu, get up and eat something before you go back to sleep," Cheng Yanhong said, gently shaking her.

Mo Shuyu sat up, hugging her daughter and kissing her cheek. "There's no place like home—safe and comfortable."

"Of course. Come on, Softie, it's time to eat," Cheng Yanhong said as she went to the kitchen to serve the meal.

Mo Shuyu got out of bed with her daughter, who had her own adjustable high chair. She put Softie in the chair and went to help her mother serve the food. Seeing the few dishes, Mo Shuyu thought of Lin Ran. With her injured hands, she wondered if Lin Ran had anything to eat for lunch. Should she invite Lin Ran over?

She picked up her phone but then remembered she had deleted Lin Ran's contact after being bombarded with messages from her. Feeling awkward, she realized she no longer had Lin Ran's contact information.

Mo Shuyu recalled that Lin Ran might be in the community group chat. She opened the chat and saw the messages from Lin Zhongsheng, along with many people tagging Lin Ran, trying to get supplies from her.

Frowning slightly, Mo Shuyu found it hard to believe Lin Ran would treat her father that way. However, the arrow in Lin Lei's leg did look like one from Lin Ran's crossbow. She scrolled through the chat, seeing neighbors morally pressuring Lin Ran to share her supplies, but Lin Ran hadn't responded.

Mo Shuyu clicked on Lin Ran's profile and sent her a friend request again, but it wasn't immediately accepted.

"Xiaoyu, let's eat first. Don't play with your phone," Cheng Yanhong reminded with a smile.

"Oh, I'm not playing with my phone, just checking what everyone is saying in the group," Mo Shuyu put down her phone and started eating. She looked at Cheng Yanhong and asked, "Mom, is there any more food in the pot?"

"Yes, why? Is it not enough? I can get you more," Cheng Yanhong quickly responded, worried her daughter might not have enough to eat.

"No, no, it's not that. Lin Ran hurt her hand, and I'm worried she might not be able to cook for herself. I thought of inviting her over to eat," Mo Shuyu cleared her throat and explained.

"Oh, what did she say? I'll prepare an extra set of dishes," Cheng Yanhong replied.

"No need for now, Mom. She hasn't accepted my request yet. Maybe she's too tired and fell asleep. I'll check with her this afternoon," Mo Shuyu said, glancing at her phone to confirm that Lin Ran hadn't accepted her friend request.

"Alright, let's eat first."

"Okay." Mo Shuyu noticed that her mother had prepared stir-fried green beans with pork and spicy shredded potatoes. They were having rice because Cheng Yanhong was cautious about using too many ingredients, considering the scarcity of food.
