"De Ge, could it be Lin Ran and her friend are coming back? It sounds like that motorcycle," Li Zheng suggested.

The wall-smashers paused, all eyes on Ma Yide.

He spat and cursed, "Damn it. Why are you all standing there? It's just Lin Ran and that doctor. They can't do much. Keep smashing."

"Yes, De Ge," they resumed their work.

"De Ge, if Lin Ran dares to come back at this hour, she must be tough," Zhang Jiandong warned.

"I agree, De Ge. Don't forget how she killed zombies in the neighborhood. She showed no mercy, like a living Grim Reaper," Yin Li added, recalling Lin Ran's fearsome fighting style.

"Worthless, all of you are worthless. Do you think just because you can cut down zombies, you can cut down people? Do you really think Lin Ran has the guts for that? If I find anyone scared, I'll deal with him myself when we get back," Ma Yide shouted, scanning the group with a fierce glare. "Do you understand?"

"Understood, understood. I was just reminding everyone to stay alert. I'm not afraid," Yin Li quickly defended himself.

Meanwhile, a few henchmen continued hammering away at the wall near Lin Ran's door. They had made a hole about the size of a large frying pan, but since it was a load-bearing wall, it had bricks, cement, and steel reinforcements, making it hard to break through quickly.

"De Ge, there's rebar in this wall," one of the henchmen said timidly to Ma Yide.

Ma Yide kicked him, "Idiot! Can't you hit a spot without rebar? Hurry up and break through the wall, or you'll all be sorry."

"Yes, De Ge, we'll break it right away," the henchmen replied, not daring to say more as they resumed hammering.

Ma Yide then turned to the others, "You four, go wait for Lin Ran in the hallway. Open both these big white doors. I want to see if she, a mere woman, can be tougher than me."

"Got it," Li Zheng responded quickly, waving for the four men to grab their machetes and head to the hallway to wait for Lin Ran.

Meanwhile, Lin Ran acted swiftly. She parked the motorcycle outside the building, stored it in her space, and quickly rushed into the building with Mo Shuyu. By the time the zombies in the area reacted, Lin Ran and Mo Shuyu had already entered the building and headed upstairs.

Lin Ran summoned a compound crossbow to her left hand, loaded it with bolts, and whispered to Mo Shuyu, "These people coming at this hour are likely trouble. Be very careful."

"Got it," Mo Shuyu nodded, feeling anxious as they could clearly hear the sounds of someone hammering at the wall from the stairwell.

Lin Ran, holding the compound crossbow in her right hand and the katana in her left, moved quickly. Despite being exhausted from a day of killing zombies, the thought of someone taking advantage of her absence made Lin Ran's expression turn cold. This time, she and Mo Shuyu were lucky to return, but what about next time?

They soon reached the fifth floor and could hear the cursing of the intruders. As they rounded the corner to the platform between the ninth and tenth floors, they saw the men.

"Damn, it's Lin Ran. She's back," one of the thugs said, and threw his machete at her face.

Lin Ran blocked with her blade, the machete clattering to the floor with a sharp sound.

Originally, Lin Ran hadn't intended to attack, but this clear attempt on her life made her expression turn icy.

The thug who threw the machete, seeing Lin Ran's crossbow, ducked behind the big white door and shouted to Ma Yide, "De Ge, they're just two people, but Lin Ran has a crossbow."
