At this moment, Lin Ran was entirely focused on the surrounding zombies, continuously slashing, dodging, and cutting. Her movements became more skilled, and she demanded even more of herself.
She needed to use minimal movements to avoid zombie attacks, conserving her energy and minimizing fatigue.
As she was about to finish off a zombie in front of her, she sensed danger from above. A gunshot rang out.
In that instant, Lin Ran swiftly dodged to the side. The bullet grazed her face, hitting the zombie in the chest.
Feeling a burning pain on her face, she didn’t have time to think. She quickly moved while glancing up and saw someone on the 20th-floor balcony aiming a gun downwards.
Not wanting to stay in the open, Lin Ran rushed into the small supermarket, using the zombies inside to cover her scent. Some zombies were also attracted by the gunshot, wandering aimlessly in the courtyard, unable to locate the source of the sound.
Taking a few deep breaths, Lin Ran grabbed a pack of clean tissues from the shelf, wiped her hands, and then pressed a tissue to the stinging part of her face. Sure enough, the tissue showed bloodstains. The right side of her face had been grazed by the speeding bullet.
Fortunately, she had taken a gene-enhancing drug before, which had increased her speed beyond that of an average person. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to dodge that shot just now. Even if the bullet didn’t blow her head off, it would have definitely pierced her right cheek.
Lin Ran's expression turned cold. She hadn’t expected Hu Xuecheng to have such accurate marksmanship, or maybe it was just dumb luck. Either way, she had almost been killed. Indeed, in the apocalypse, humans were more terrifying than zombies.
She checked herself in the mirror. The right side of her face only had a minor scrape, the kind that would heal quickly with a band-aid. This incident reminded Lin Ran of the power of firearms—they were deadly against both humans and zombies. She needed to get a gun as soon as possible.
Looking into the bathroom mirror again, she smirked coldly. It was clear that living too comfortably could make one lose vigilance.
Lin Ran scanned the small supermarket. She had already taken most of the bottled drinking water. This time, she added a lot of electrolyte water and drinks to her space. Then, she threw in packets of hotpot seasoning and lamb spine seasoning.
As for her backpack, Lin Ran filled it with several packs of cigarettes from the counter, as well as plenty of wet wipes and tissue paper. Once the backpack was full, she prepared to leave the small supermarket.
However, this time she dared not fight zombies in the open. Before dealing with the zombies, she had to take care of Hu Xuecheng.
With that in mind, Lin Ran moved the corpse blocking the supermarket door and quickly ran towards the building entrance.
Meanwhile, the chat in Building 9's owners group exploded.
Zhang Ming 2001: Damn, that scared me to death! What was that sound? It sounded like a gunshot!
Wang Wuyang 1103: I thought it sounded like a gunshot from upstairs too. But aren’t guns controlled? Only officials have them, right?
Hu Xuecheng 2004: Am I an ordinary person? That was me shooting. Isn’t Lin Ran all that? @Lin Ran, let’s see what you’re capable of. @Lin Ran, if you come to the 20th floor and kneel down to apologize, bring water and supplies, I might forgive you. Oh, and bring your girlfriend over for me to sleep with. Maybe I’ll let you live.
Hu Xuecheng 2004: @Lin Ran, what’s wrong? Weren’t you cursing at me just now? Why are you hiding like a coward now? Come out @Lin Ran.
Hu Xuecheng 2004: Everyone else in Building 9, you better understand who controls your lives now. If I’m unhappy, none of you will live well!
