"Stretch out your left hand," Mo Shuyu reminded.
Lin Ran obediently stretched out her left hand. Mo Shuyu carefully treated the wound, and it took nearly twenty minutes to change the bandages on both hands.
Lin Ran looked at the neatly bandaged wound, stood up, and thanked, "Thank you. I'll be leaving now."
"Huh? Auntie, are you leaving? Won't you play with me?" The little one struggled in Cheng Yanhong's arms, got down, and ran to Lin Ran, hugging her leg. She had grown fond of this aunt who brought her delicious snacks and looked pretty.
"Yes, I need to go home and rest because of my hand. I'll come to see you when I have time, okay?" Lin Ran squatted down to be at eye level with the little one and poked her cheek.
"Okay, Auntie needs to rest,"Ruan Ruan reluctantly agreed, looking at Lin Ran with longing.
Mo Shuyu was amused by the little one's reaction, "Alright, why don't you stay for lunch? After resting, you can leave after lunch."
"Yay! Auntie will have lunch with me!" the little one exclaimed excitedly.
Mo Shuyu looked at the little one and then at Cheng Yanhong.
Cheng Yanhong, seeing that both her daughter and the little one seemed satisfied with Lin Ran, followed along, "Yes, stay for lunch. You can't cook with your injured hand anyway."
"Alright then, sorry for the trouble," Lin Ran agreed after Cheng Yanhong's consent.
"Great!" The little one hugged Lin Ran's leg again, "Auntie, watch cartoons with me. You sit on one side, and Mom sits on the other, okay?"
"Okay, as you wish," Lin Ran said with a smile. If her hand wasn't injured, she would have picked up the little one to play.
"Yay!" The little one quickly climbed onto the sofa and patted the spots on either side of her, "Mom, Auntie, come over."
Mo Shuyu sat on the left side of the little one, and Lin Ran sat on the right.
The little one was thrilled, her short legs swinging more vigorously. Usually, it was just her mom and grandma sitting beside her, but this felt different. She didn't have a mom from a young age. A month ago, she had started kindergarten and saw other kids with their moms or dads, feeling a bit envious. But she never told her mom or grandma.
The little one occasionally looked at her mom and then at Lin Ran. If Lin Ran's hand wasn't hurting, she would have wanted to sit in her lap and be pampered.
Cheng Yanhong watched, feeling a bit overwhelmed. Their Ruanyuan was easily won over by a bag of snacks.
Mo Shuyu watched TV with the little one for a while before heading to the kitchen, "Mom, I'll help you."
"No need, just help me wash the vegetables," Cheng Yanhong sighed, looking at her daughter and whispered, "Xiaoyu, we don't have many eggs or vegetables left. I don't know how long those monsters outside will take to be eradicated. If this continues, our food supplies will run low."
Mo Shuyu was silent for a moment. Her mother only knew there were many zombies outside but hadn't seen them firsthand. Mo Shuyu had come all the way from the hospital with Lin Ran. Now, Jiangbei City was almost completely overrun, and waiting for the zombies to disappear was nearly impossible.
"Mom, don't worry too much. There will always be a way," Mo Shuyu reassured.
"I hope so. But since Lin Ran came over, we should make a few extra dishes. She brought a lot of things for Ruanyuan," Cheng Yanhong said, still a bit afraid of Lin Ran, but she wasn't empty-handed and had saved her daughter's life, so it was only right to treat her well.
