By this time, Lin Ran and Mo Shuyu were already resting on the chairs in the office. With a thought, Lin Ran summoned a large can of hot pot, a pack of noodles, a portable stove with a gas canister, two bottles of water, along with bowls, wet wipes, chopsticks, and other items onto the desk.

Since there was no one else around, they decided to treat themselves to a good meal after all the hardships they'd endured.

They cleaned their hands with wet wipes, and then Lin Ran began preparing their afternoon meal.

Lin Ran attached the gas canister to the portable stove and lit the fire, while Mo Shuyu opened the large can of hot pot and placed it on the stove to heat up.

Soon, the aroma of hot pot filled the room. Both Lin Ran and Mo Shuyu were hungry, so they eagerly started eating. The can was filled with beef, mushrooms, and meatballs—plenty for the two of them.

Lin Ran picked up a large piece of beef and savored it, feeling incredibly satisfied to be eating such a meal in the apocalypse. Mo Shuyu also enjoyed the food immensely.

Once they had eaten most of the contents of the can, Lin Ran added some water to it. After the water boiled, she put in the noodles and some luncheon meat. The aroma was so enticing it made one feel comfortable just from the smell.

Meanwhile, outside their room:

"Hey, where's that smell coming from?"

"Yeah, it smells so good, like hot pot."

"No way, who could be eating hot pot at a time like this?"

"Really, it seems to be coming from that office."

Ye Boyang, sitting at the door, also caught the scent. For the first time in his life, the company president was so hungry that he was practically drooling. He couldn't believe that Lin Ran had managed to get her hands on such food in the apocalypse. No wonder Mo Shuyu was willing to stay with her.

On the side, Xiao Yawen was also filled with envy. If she had accepted Lin Ran's offer earlier, she would be the one inside eating hot pot now.

Smelling the delicious aroma, Ye Boyang's stomach growled with hunger. He decided to take two of his assistants and leave.

The hall was filled with zombie corpses. Ye Boyang had the assistants drag two of the bodies into an empty room, and they also found and dealt with a lone zombie in the stairwell.

Ye Boyang had the assistants carry the freshly killed zombie back to the empty room.

One of the assistants, confused, asked, "Mr. Ye, what are you planning to do?"

Ye Boyang glanced at them. "You'll see. Help me crack open the heads of these three zombies."

"Ugh, that's so gross," one assistant protested, clearly unwilling, but they knew that their survival over the past month was largely due to Ye Boyang's leadership. He was the backbone of their group.

Reluctantly, the two assistants followed orders. They had fire axes from the building, and they used them to chop into the zombies' heads. Ye Boyang also took an axe and hacked into the head of the freshly killed zombie.

Ye Boyang was testing a theory. Since a person's brain or central nervous system is crucial, he suspected the same might be true for zombies. Perhaps the crystal core was inside their brains.

The skulls of the three zombies were soon cracked open. Ye Boyang grabbed a few pencils from the desk in the room and, despite the stench, began poking around in the zombies' brains.
