"Alright, let's pack up and leave now," Lin Ran said as she helped Mo Qiming up, while Mo Shuyu carried her daughter.
With Lin Ran and Cheng Yanhong supporting Mo Qiming, their group quickly headed toward the exit of the shelter. Because of Wei Chen, one of the soldiers at the gate recognized Mo Qiming.
Seeing that Mo Qiming appeared unconscious, the soldier quickly stopped Lin Ran's group, who were handling the procedures to leave the shelter.
"Wait a minute. What's going on with this man? Why is he passed out?" the soldier asked.
"Officer, it's probably the heat. He got heatstroke and fainted, but he'll be fine after resting for a while," Lin Ran explained while handing the soldier a pack of cigarettes.
The soldier stepped back and didn't take the cigarettes from Lin Ran. "This doesn't seem right. This man is Wei Chen's father-in-law. We've had dinner together before. Who are you, and where are you taking him?"
"I'm his daughter. Our family has some matters to attend to outside the base, and we should be free to leave whenever we want. The base can't restrict our freedom, right, Officer?" Mo Shuyu said, looking at the soldier.
"So you're Mo Shuyu? I've heard Wei Chen mention you. Why are you leaving? Does Wei Chen know about this?" the soldier asked further.
"Officer, do we need Wei Chen's permission to leave? Can we go now?" Mo Shuyu asked with a slight frown.
"Why the rush? You need to go through the proper procedures to leave the shelter. This isn't a place where you can come and go as you please," the soldier muttered to another soldier nearby, who quickly ran off.
"When can we leave?" Lin Ran asked, frowning.
"Once we've verified your identities and everything checks out, you can go. Understand?" Yang Fei, the soldier, said, keeping a close watch on Lin Ran.
Seeing the armed soldiers around them, Lin Ran could only nod. With so many people, forcefully breaking out wasn't an option. It seemed like the soldier knew Mo Qiming, and they had likely sent for Wei Chen.
Sure enough, just as Lin Ran suspected, about ten minutes later, Wei Chen arrived with six soldiers. His face darkened when he saw that Mo Shuyu was trying to leave.
"Xiaoyu, you just got here. What are you doing?" Wei Chen ignored everyone else and directly addressed Mo Shuyu.
"We came to find my dad, and now that we've found him, it's time for us to leave. What, is this shelter in Jiangnan City trying to forcefully detain ordinary citizens?" Mo Shuyu's face grew even more unpleasant when she saw Wei Chen.
"What are you saying? Of course, we won't stop anyone from leaving. But what's wrong with Uncle? Is he unwell? He should get better before you leave," Wei Chen said as he moved to help Mo Qiming, but Mo Shuyu blocked him.
"He's my father. I know exactly how he is. You don't need to worry about him, Captain Wei," Mo Shuyu said coldly.
Yang Fei, sensing the tension between them, quickly tried to mediate. "Sister-in-law, is there some misunderstanding between you and Wei Chen? He's been worried about you, afraid that you've suffered outside. Now that you're finally together again, don't let any misunderstandings drive you apart."
Mo Shuyu's expression grew colder as she glanced at Yang Fei. "Sister-in-law? I think you're mistaken. I have a wife, and everything Wei Chen has done has been one-sided. I'm not your sister-in-law. At best, we were just ordinary friends, but now, we're not even that."
She looked at Wei Chen, whose face alternated between red and pale, but Mo Shuyu didn't care. She continued, "I can't believe you're this kind of person. We had no relationship to begin with, yet you exaggerated things to those around you. Captain Wei, you must have a lot of free time."
