Lin Ran and Wei Qingxue were just beginning to worry about Ding Tong when she was brought to the front gate.

"Butler Wang, two guests have entered through the back door," the man reported respectfully.

Butler Wang nodded, scanning the eight players before saying, "Welcome to Rose Manor. The banquet will begin at 8:00 p.m. However, simply having an invitation isn't enough to attend. You'll need to work for it. Please select your profession accordingly."

Lin Ran glanced at the cards. Based on her past experiences, none of these professions were safe. They all likely involved danger, so it didn't really matter which one was chosen—just different dangers.

The butler handed four of the identity cards to the four men, and they scrambled to grab them.

"I'll be the gardener."

"I'll cook in the kitchen."

"I'll wash clothes in the laundry."

Lastly, the position of standing guard at the castle gate was automatically assigned to Luo Chengyi.

Nobody wanted this role because it meant being at the castle gate, possibly interacting with the castle owner, so it was the least desirable.

In the end, Luo Chengyi was assigned to stand guard at the gate, Xie Jun became the gardener, the muscular Zhang Xiang was assigned to cook in the kitchen, and the man going to the laundry was named Cheng Shengjin.

Each person took their identity card and was escorted to their respective duties.

The butler also brought four cards over to Lin Ran's group. Lin Ran looked at the available professions: maid inside the castle, tutor, security guard at the door, and dishwasher in the kitchen.

From the looks of it, being a maid or tutor seemed the most dangerous, so Lin Ran simply picked the maid card and then turned to Wei Qingxue and Ding Tong. "You two choose."

Wei Qingxue glanced at the remaining cards in the butler's hand and looked over at Meng Xinyi. Since they didn't know her well, the safest bet was for herself and Ding Tong to choose the security guard and dishwasher roles.

Wei Qingxue decisively took the dishwasher card and gestured for Ding Tong to grab the security card. But before she could say anything, Meng Xinyi had already snatched both remaining cards from the butler.

"Sister, I have both cards left. How about this? To thank you for saving me earlier, I'll let you choose first." Meng Xinyi blinked mischievously at Ding Tong.

Ding Tong, already wary of her after what happened before, replied, "Alright, I'll take the security guard."

"Huh? But sister, I'm afraid of dealing with children. How about we switch? I'll be the security guard, and you can be the tutor." As she spoke, Meng Xinyi had already tucked the security card away and was only holding the tutor card.

Ding Tong's face darkened as she reached for the tutor card. "Fine, I'll remember this."

"Huh? There are so many people here, sister. If you say things like that, it'll make me shy." The girl's cheeks flushed slightly, as if she were genuinely embarrassed, and she quickly ran off with the person leading her to her task.

Wei Qingxue offered, "I can be the tutor. I've got experience."

"It's fine. Since I got this card, I'll stick with it." Ding Tong glanced at the card in her hand and put it away.

"Let's try to gather some clues first. When we regroup, we can combine all the information," Lin Ran suggested.

"Alright," they both responded.
