The green liquid had no taste. Lin Ran only felt a cool sensation in her mouth and throat as she swallowed. She didn't feel any immediate discomfort.

The system spoke in her mind: "Congratulations on using the gene enhancement potion. Strength +1, Speed +1, Agility +1, Endurance +1. The potion is now integrating with your body's cells. The integration time depends on your physical condition. Please be patient."

After about five minutes, the potion started to take effect. Lin Ran's face and neck began to heat up, sweat beads forming on her forehead, and her heart rate increased rapidly.

Despite the discomfort, Lin Ran tried to regulate her breathing, inhaling and exhaling to alleviate the symptoms. In no time, she was drenched in sweat.

She took out wet wipes from her backpack to wipe her sweat. This sweaty condition persisted for half an hour before her heart rate stabilized and she stopped sweating.

She took a bottle of water from her backpack and drank it all in one go. Only then did Lin Ran start to feel somewhat better, and her strength was slowly returning.

Seeing Mo Shuyu sitting a few steps away, Lin Ran took out two chocolate bars and a bottle of purified water from her backpack and handed them over. "Eat something to replenish your strength. We'll think of a way to leave afterward."

Mo Shuyu was feeling a bit hungry, still anxious from their earlier near-death experiences. She accepted the items from Lin Ran, thanking her politely, "Thank you. Are you feeling better?"

Lin Ran nodded, "Much better. I just need to rest a bit more."

With that, Lin Ran lay back down to relax her body.

Mo Shuyu unwrapped a chocolate bar and began to eat. Given their dangerous situation, they needed to replenish their energy whenever possible, or she doubted she could make it home.

After finishing the chocolate bars and drinking half a bottle of water, Mo Shuyu sat quietly, not disturbing Lin Ran's rest.

Lin Ran set an alarm, and at 6:30, it rang. She turned it off and sat up, supporting herself with her arms. Standing, she stretched a bit, finding her strength almost fully restored. She felt incredibly light, even better than when she woke up in the morning.

The gene enhancement potion must have taken effect, enhancing her physical capabilities. However, apart from feeling her strength return, Lin Ran didn't notice any other significant changes yet.

Now wasn't the time to dwell on it. Feeling revitalized, Lin Ran decisively took out a rope from her backpack. She found two iron railings on the rooftop and secured one end of the rope, creating a makeshift descent device.

Since they were on the 14th floor, Lin Ran used a double rope for safety. This way, if one rope broke, the other would still support them.

Knowing the plan was risky, Lin Ran preferred a controlled risk where she held her fate in her hands.

Speeding up, she tied the knots. Due to the rope's length, the double rope could only help her descend to the 9th floor. Of course, this depended on her stamina holding out; otherwise, both she and Mo Shuyu could fall from a great height.

Nonetheless, Lin Ran prepared a safety measure. Given the strange card-drawing system and their dire situation, she saw no need to hide anything from Mo Shuyu. She willed another large coil of rope from her space, securing it to the iron railings. These ropes would be their lifelines.
