Chapter 92

The foul smell was so strong that even the little girl started crying from the stench. With no other option, Lin Ran dampened some towels with water for everyone to use to cover their noses, which made things a bit more bearable.

She also gave the little girl her small kitty towel to cover her nose and mouth, which made her feel a bit better.

Lin Ran did the same and went out to the balcony to look down. She could still see smoke rising. The human fat burned easily, and the small mountain of fire below had grown even larger. There was no other choice, though—they still had to live there for the time being, and burning the bodies was necessary to prevent any disease outbreaks.

The fire burned for over three hours, and by the end, all the corpses had turned to ashes. However, the unpleasant smell still lingered outside, leaving Lin Ran and the others with no appetite for lunch.

Afterward, Lin Ran and Mo Shuyu took turns showering and changing into clean clothes before deciding to rest.

Lying on the bed, Lin Ran took out the two gene enhancement serum cards. With a thought, two bottles of fluorescent green liquid appeared in her hands.

She opened both bottles and drank the liquid in one go.

Five minutes later, Lin Ran began to feel her body heating up, and it was as if every cell in her body was violently clashing inside her. She figured the intense reaction was because she had consumed both bottles at once; otherwise, the effects wouldn't have been so strong.

Seeing her discomfort, Mo Shuyu quickly asked, "What's wrong? Are you in pain?"

"Yes, it hurts a bit," Lin Ran replied. As she spoke, impurities began surfacing on her skin, and they grew thicker by the minute. She had to lay a bedsheet on the floor and sit on it, waiting for her body to expel all the impurities.

Despite the pain, Lin Ran watched as a layer of black gunk emerged on her arms. She guessed it was the serum helping to cleanse her body of impurities, and though the pain was intense, she gritted her teeth and endured it.

After more than two hours, the pain finally subsided, but Lin Ran was now covered in a layer of black muck. Even her face was smeared with it, making Mo Shuyu laugh.

Mo Shuyu snapped a photo of Lin Ran and showed it to her. 

"It must be the serum cleansing my body of impurities. I feel much lighter now, but I need to take a shower—this gunk is really uncomfortable," Lin Ran said as she got up and headed to the bathroom. She turned on the shower and washed off the muck, scrubbing herself several times until she was finally clean.

After drying off and changing into a nightgown, Lin Ran dried her hair, feeling incredibly light and refreshed.

When she came out of the bathroom, Mo Shuyu was already lying on the bed, playing a single-player game. Seeing Lin Ran, she teased, "The mud monster's out!"

Lin Ran laughed as she climbed into bed and snuggled up to Mo Shuyu, lifting a corner of the summer blanket. "You're making fun of me."

Feeling a bit pouty, Lin Ran cuddled up to Mo Shuyu, holding her close.

Mo Shuyu, still engrossed in her game, glanced at Lin Ran and playfully poked her cheek. "I wasn't making fun of you. But you did look kind of funny, like a little coal ball."

Mo Shuyu couldn't help but toss her tablet aside and bury herself in Lin Ran's arms, laughing.

Lin Ran tightened her embrace and kissed Mo Shuyu's earlobe. "Xiaoyu, we still haven't finished what we started yesterday afternoon."
