Dec stood outside Ant's front door, a tangle of emotions swirling inside him. He had been feeling a little distant lately, despite the fact that they were practically inseparable. No matter how many times they hung out, there was an unsettling ache in his chest, a nagging doubt that maybe this time, Ant would turn him away. Shaking his head at his own ridiculous thoughts, he took a deep breath and knocked softly.
To his relief, the door swung open almost immediately, and he was enveloped in a warm embrace. Ant wrapped his arms around Dec, pulling him inside with that familiar, comforting energy that always seemed to melt away his worries. As they stepped into the cosy living room, Dec felt the tension in his shoulders begin to ease, realising just how silly his previous thoughts had been.
"Dec! It's good to see you!" Ant beamed, his eyes sparkling with genuine warmth. The worries that had plagued Dec melted away, at least for the moment. They settled onto the couch, the comforting scent of popcorn wafting through the air as the football match flickered on the screen.
As they watched the game, Dec tried to focus on the action, but he could feel Ant's gaze on him, penetrating and curious. After a few minutes, the inevitable question came. "Hey, what's wrong? You've been a bit quiet."
Dec looked down at his hands, fidgeting with the hem of his shirt. "I don't know... I just felt a bit off lately. Like maybe... maybe you didn't want to hang out as much," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.
Ant's expression softened instantly, and he shifted closer, making sure their shoulders were touching. "Dec, nothing could ever make me want to lose our friendship. You're my best mate. I would never turn you away, not for anything."
Dec felt a wave of relief wash over him, but there was still a tight knot in his chest. "I just... I've been feeling distant. It's been bothering me."
Ant reached out, cupping Dec's chin gently, lifting his gaze to meet his. "Listen to me. I love you a lot, okay? You mean the world to me. If you ever feel like that again, just tell me. I'm here for you, always."
The sincerity in Ant's voice resonated deep within Dec. He felt a rush of warmth spreading through him, dispelling the lingering doubts that had clouded his mind. "I love you too, mate," he replied, a smile breaking through his earlier worry.
Ant grinned back, the familiar spark returning to their dynamic. "Now, let's focus on the match. You know it's not going to win itself."
With a newfound sense of comfort, Dec settled in beside Ant, their banter returning as they cheered for their team. The distance that had felt so heavy moments ago seemed to dissolve into the shared warmth of friendship, reminding Dec that no matter how he felt, he would always have a place in Ant's heart.
