One chilly autumn morning, Ant and Dec sat in their dressing room, scrolling through social media while they waited for the next segment. The air was crisp, and the faint sound of laughter floated in from the bustling studio outside. Between shared jokes and the occasional playful shove, a comment thread caught their eye. Their fans, who adored their dynamic as a trio, seemed convinced that Ant and Dec didn't actually like Stephen all that much, seeing him more as a tag-along than a close friend.
Dec frowned, his brows knitting together as he read the comments. "That's not true at all," he muttered, glancing over at Ant with an intensity that made his friend raise an eyebrow. "Stephen's like family."
"Of course he is," Ant nodded, feeling a pang of frustration at the thought. "We've just been... caught up in everything lately. Guess we haven't shown it enough."
Ant's mind raced as he recalled all the moments they had shared with Stephen-the laughter, the late-night talks, the inside jokes. Each memory was a reminder of the bond they had formed, one that went far deeper than any social media comment could suggest. He looked back at Dec, determination sparking in his eyes. "We need to change that."
And that was all it took. The next day, the pair embarked on a mission to make sure Stephen knew just how much he meant to them. They showered him with gifts-each one carefully chosen. A new leather jacket, sleek and stylish, caught Stephen's eye. A bottle of his favourite cologne, the scent reminiscent of late-night adventures and camaraderie. And a limited-edition watch he'd mentioned once in passing, a glint of excitement lighting up Stephen's face as he unwrapped it.
Dec chuckled as Stephen's eyes widened. "You like it, right?" he asked, a playful smirk on his lips.
"It's brilliant! You two are going to spoil me rotten," Stephen replied, laughter bubbling in his chest, though he couldn't shake the feeling that there was more behind their generous gestures.
They took him to his favourite upscale restaurants, where laughter echoed off the walls and the atmosphere felt electric. Each time, they insisted on paying for everything, giving Stephen a night to remember. The warmth of their friendship wrapped around him like a cosy blanket. Yet, with each extravagant gesture, a seed of curiosity sprouted in his mind.
Every time they met up or said goodbye, they made sure to pull him into a tight hug, the kind that felt safe and reassuring, followed by a quick kiss on his cheek that sent a flutter of warmth through him. "You're stuck with us, you know," Ant teased, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
At first, Stephen just thought his friends were being their usual, kind selves. But as the days went by, their attentiveness became so constant that he started to notice something was up. One night after dinner, Dec brought out a wrapped box, his grin so wide it was contagious. "Open it!" he urged, practically bouncing on his feet.
Inside was a pair of noise-cancelling headphones he'd been eyeing for ages, and Stephen chuckled, accepting it gratefully, though a question nagged at him. What's really going on here?
By the end of the week, he couldn't ignore it anymore. The gifts, the extra affection-it all felt like a buildup to something. He decided to head over to Ant and Dec's place to get to the bottom of their sudden wave of generosity. When he arrived, Ant let him in with a welcoming grin, his face lighting up the room.
"Hey, mate! Just in time for some tea," Ant exclaimed, gesturing to the cosy kitchen where the kettle was already steaming.
Dec soon joined them in the living room, his expression a mix of eagerness and a hint of nerves. As they settled onto the couch, Stephen glanced at them both, crossing his arms with a playful frown. "Alright, lads. What's going on?"
Ant and Dec exchanged a quick look, a silent conversation passing between them. It was a moment of uncertainty, a flicker of doubt that made Stephen's heart race.
Dec sighed, a bit sheepish. "It's just...we read some comments, and they seemed to think we didn't like you as much as we should. So we wanted to show you that, you know, you're really important to us."
Stephen's face softened as he shook his head, touched yet amused. "Oh, you two. You didn't have to do all that." He paused, his voice growing sincere. "I know you love me-I never once doubted it."
Ant looked relieved, yet still earnest, his eyes searching Stephen's for understanding. "We wanted you to feel it, though. The comments got to us, I guess. We just... we don't want you to ever feel less than you are to us."
With a warm smile, Stephen wrapped an arm around each of them, pulling them close. "Thank you-for everything. You've made this week unforgettable." He felt a swell of gratitude, his heart bursting with affection. "But honestly, just knowing that I'm part of this team and part of your lives is more than enough for me."
Ant and Dec both hugged him tightly, the embrace a mixture of relief and love. In that moment, they knew that gifts and fancy meals weren't needed to prove their bond-it was already unbreakable. And as they sat together, laughing and reminiscing about the silly moments they had shared, they realised that Stephen felt just as loved as he always had.
