It was a bright and sunny Saturday morning, and Ant, Dec, and Stephen had decided to spend the day at the zoo. They'd been so busy lately, juggling filming, rehearsals, and various projects, that they hadn't had the chance to just enjoy some time together. Ant, always the planner, had suggested the zoo after a conversation about their childhood memories of seeing animals.
"I haven't been to the zoo in ages," Stephen said, hopping into the back seat of Ant's car, grinning. "What's the plan, Ant?"
"Just a day of fun and animals. Let's forget about work and have some laughs," Ant replied, glancing back at Stephen with a smile before focusing on the road. "We'll be like kids again. Right, Dec?"
Dec was already fiddling with the playlist on his phone, the sound of his giggles adding to the excitement. "I'm ready for all the animals and the snacks. And-oh!-I'm definitely winning the selfie competition today."
They arrived at the zoo and immediately set out toward the entrance. The first thing they noticed was the sweet, earthy smell of the air and the sounds of animals in the distance. Stephen's eyes lit up. "Look at that giraffe!" he exclaimed, pointing toward the towering neck of the animal that was peeking over a fence.
Ant smirked. "Are you sure you're not just seeing things, Stevie?" He ruffled Stephen's hair affectionately, using one of his many baby nicknames.
Stephen rolled his eyes, but his grin never faltered. "I'm not seeing things, you two. It's right there!"
The trio made their way toward the giraffes, Ant and Dec engaging in their usual playful banter. "Do you think giraffes ever look at us and think, 'I wish I had shorter legs so I could get closer to the ground?'" Dec joked, making Stephen burst into laughter.
"Or maybe they think, 'Why do I have to stand so tall? I just want to relax like a normal animal,'" Stephen added, his voice filled with humour.
Ant laughed along with him, his arm casually draping over Stephen's shoulders as they walked. "The giraffes are probably just hoping we have snacks to share," he teased.
Next, they wandered to the lion exhibit, where they were met with the deep roars of the pride. Stephen's eyes widened. "That's what I call 'speak up!'" he laughed.
Dec, ever the quick-witted one, turned to Ant and said, "Maybe the lion's asking, 'Hey, when are the snacks coming?'"
Ant snorted. "You two have snack-related humour for everything," he teased. "But I'm with you, it's making me hungry too."
They paused by the elephants next, admiring the massive creatures as they lazily moved about. "Look at those ears!" Stephen exclaimed. "They could fly with those things!"
Dec winked. "Maybe they use them to catch the breeze when they want to cool off. Smart animals, those elephants."
As they continued their adventure, they shared funny moments, trying to mimic the animals' sounds or walking with exaggerated animal imitations that had them all in stitches. Stephen, trying his best to imitate an ostrich, walked with his hands on his head like feathers and made ridiculous noises that sent Ant and Dec into fits of laughter.
"Are you sure you're not part ostrich, Stevie?" Dec teased, nudging Stephen playfully.
Stephen shrugged dramatically, raising an eyebrow. "Could be. Have you seen me run?" he joked, and the three of them burst out laughing.
Finally, after visiting nearly every animal exhibit, they reached the gift shop, where they couldn't resist picking out matching animal hats. Ant picked a tiger one, Dec went for a lion, and Stephen proudly wore a giraffe hat, his head peeking out from the long neck of the plush toy.
Stephen looked at the others and shook his head. "We look like a travelling circus."
Ant smirked. "Well, that's the point, isn't it? Just a couple of clowns with their giraffe buddy."
Dec laughed, throwing his arm around Stephen's shoulders. "You're the most adorable giraffe I've ever met, little one."
As they left the zoo, carrying bags of animal-shaped souvenirs and laughing over all the ridiculous moments of the day, Stephen said, "I have to admit, I didn't think a day at the zoo could be this much fun."
Ant smiled, his arm still around Stephen. "That's the magic of spending time with us. It's always fun, no matter what we're doing."
"And you're right, you're definitely the best giraffe around," Dec added with a wink.
Stephen rolled his eyes playfully but couldn't help the wide grin on his face. "You two are impossible."
The three of them laughed all the way home, the memories of the day full of joy, laughter, and the simple, cherished moments they shared as friends.
