The cosy evening at Dec's flat had been filled with laughter and warmth, as usual. Ant, Dec, and Stephen were sprawled on the sofa, the telly buzzing softly in the background. But somewhere along the way, Ant noticed a shift. Dec and Stephen had leaned closer together, sharing a blanket and giggling over something on Stephen's phone. Their heads were practically touching as they whispered and laughed, their bond in that moment palpable.
Ant tried to shake off the flicker of jealousy that crept into his chest. Of course, they loved him. They'd always made sure he knew that. But as their shared laughter bubbled up again, louder this time, he felt a pang he couldn't ignore. Without saying anything, he slipped away from the sofa.
He headed upstairs to the spare bedroom, his heart heavy. It wasn't that he didn't want them to have their moments together-he truly loved seeing them happy-but tonight, he just felt like the odd one out. Curling up on the bed, he pulled out his phone and began aimlessly scrolling through social media. A picture of the three of them at a recent event popped up, and he stared at it for a long moment. We're a team, he thought, but the knot in his chest wouldn't ease.
Ten minutes passed before he heard soft footsteps approaching. The door creaked open, and he caught a glimpse of Dec and Stephen peeking in.
"There he is," Dec said softly, his voice laced with affection.
"What are you doing up here, Ant?" Stephen asked, stepping further into the room. Their concern was clear, but Ant only huffed and rolled away, pulling the blanket tighter around him.
"Oh, he's sulking," Dec whispered to Stephen, and Ant could hear the teasing grin in his voice. "How cute is this?"
Instead of replying, Stephen joined Dec in approaching the bed. Ant tried to ignore them, even as they sat down on either side of him.
"Ant," Dec cooed, leaning over to rest his chin on Ant's shoulder. "What's this all about, eh? Come on, tell us."
Stephen placed a gentle hand on Ant's back, rubbing soothing circles. "You're not really going to shut us out, are you? We were just about to come find you anyway."
Ant didn't reply. He felt a tug of guilt for feeling this way in the first place, but the insecurity lingered. He tensed when Dec and Stephen exchanged a glance, and suddenly, the bed dipped as they moved to wrap themselves around him.
"You're not going anywhere, love," Dec murmured, pressing a kiss to the back of Ant's neck.
"That's right," Stephen added, curling into his other side. "We've got you now."
Ant tried to stay stiff, but their warmth and affection were impossible to resist. They nestled him securely in the middle of their three-way cuddle, their arms draped around him protectively.
"Ant," Dec said softly, his lips brushing Ant's ear. "You're everything to us. We love you so much, you know that, don't you?"
Stephen nodded, kissing Ant's temple. "Yeah, we wouldn't be us without you. You're the heart of this relationship, mate."
Ant let out a shaky breath, his defences crumbling. "You two just seemed so close tonight. I didn't want to get in the way."
Dec pulled him tighter. "You're never in the way. You're always part of us."
"We're a team," Stephen added. "You're our Ant. There's no 'us' without you."
Ant turned his head to look at them, his eyes glassy with un-shed tears. "You mean it?"
"Of course we do, baby," Dec said, his voice gentle. "You mean everything to us."
Stephen leaned in and kissed Ant's cheek. "We're sorry if we made you feel left out. We'll always come find you, Ant. Always."
Their words, coupled with the flurry of kisses they began peppering over his face and neck, dissolved the last of Ant's sadness. He couldn't help but laugh, a genuine sound that made Dec and Stephen grin.
"Alright, alright," Ant said, his voice lighter now. "I get it. You two love me."
"More than anything," Dec said firmly, brushing his lips against Ant's forehead.
"Forever," Stephen added with a smile, nuzzling closer.
Ant sighed contentedly, allowing himself to sink into their embrace. In that moment, all the doubt and jealousy melted away, replaced by the unshakeable knowledge that he was cherished, loved, and absolutely essential to the bond they shared.
