The past few weeks had been hectic, and Stephen could see the toll it was taking on Ant and Dec. They'd been juggling filming, meetings, and all the demands that came with their work, leaving them looking a bit worn around the edges. So, Stephen took it upon himself to be their steady presence, checking in on them whenever he could. He made sure they ate properly, kept them hydrated, and offered constant little reminders that he was there for them.
He stocked Ant's kitchen with their favourite snacks, putting out fresh bowls of crisps, popcorn, and biscuits each night they came over to relax. Whenever one of them seemed lost in thought, he'd quietly bring them a warm mug of tea, gently setting it in their hands. "Here you go, love," he'd say softly. "Take a moment. You've earned it."
And Ant and Dec, as tired as they were, began to gravitate to him even more. Dec would sometimes come and find Stephen in the kitchen while he was organising the snacks, slipping his arms around Stephen's waist from behind. "Just needed a hug," Dec would murmur, his voice soft. Stephen would turn, wrapping his arms around him and holding him close, running a soothing hand up and down Dec's back.
Ant, too, found himself seeking Stephen out, a little more than usual. He'd wander over when he was feeling a bit down or when those rare moments of self-doubt crept in. Stephen always greeted him with a warm smile, opening his arms so Ant could settle into his embrace, resting his head against Stephen's shoulder. "You're amazing, you know that?" Stephen would whisper into his hair. "And you're so loved. Never forget that." Ant would smile, feeling a warmth spread through him as Stephen gently rocked them back and forth.
Some evenings, the three of them would pile onto the sofa, Stephen settled in the middle with Ant and Dec curled up on either side. They'd lay their heads on his shoulders, sometimes drifting off as Stephen held them close, his fingers gently running through their hair or tracing soothing circles along their backs. He'd press soft kisses to their foreheads whenever they stirred, murmuring words of reassurance.
"You two don't have to carry it all by yourselves, you know," he'd remind them gently. "Let me look after you for a bit. You deserve it."
One afternoon, after Ant had gotten frustrated with a bit of negative feedback online, Stephen found him sitting alone, looking dejected. Stephen quietly sat beside him, wrapping an arm around his shoulders. "Those voices? They don't know the real you, and they don't deserve your energy," he said softly, giving Ant's shoulder a comforting squeeze. "You have so many people who love you and look up to you-me included."
Ant sighed, leaning into Stephen's embrace, his shoulders relaxing as he took in his friend's words. "Thank you, Stephen. Don't know what we'd do without you, mate."
Stephen chuckled, pulling him in for a tight hug. "And you'll never have to find out because I'm not going anywhere."
On nights when they were all together, Stephen made sure they felt his presence in the gentlest of ways. He'd prepare little plates of their favourite treats and keep a bottle of water nearby for each of them. Whenever they looked a little lost or exhausted, he'd guide them into his arms, holding them close as they rested, feeling safe and cherished.
Each time Ant or Dec felt their spirits flagging, Stephen would be right there, ready to remind them of how much they meant to him and to the world. And in those tender moments, Stephen became not just a friend but a source of comfort and strength-someone they could lean on whenever they needed a bit of light in their lives.
