It was a typical afternoon on set. The chaos of the latest shoot buzzed in the background as Ant and Dec found themselves working in separate corners of the building. Ant was busy running through some final notes with the production team, while Dec had slipped into a quiet room to take a call with a manager. Despite the physical distance, neither of them felt any less close. They never really were apart in spirit.
Ant's phone buzzed on the desk, the familiar tone of a message from Dec lighting up the screen.
"You alright, mate? Need anything?" the message read.
Ant smiled, already feeling the warmth that came with their unspoken connection. It had become a ritual between them over the years, one that always reassured him that no matter where they were, they were looking out for each other.
He quickly typed back, "All good, just finalising some details. How's the call going?"
Almost immediately, Dec's reply came through. "All good here, just wrapping up. Thought I'd check in anyway. Let me know if you need anything. xx"
Ant couldn't help but chuckle to himself, appreciating how Dec always seemed to check in, even when things were calm. He typed a quick response, "I'm good. But I might need a coffee in a bit. You bringing me one when you're done with your call?"
Before Dec could even reply, Ant saw him walking toward the door, his familiar grin lighting up his face. He didn't need to check the text anymore; Dec had read his mind.
"Coffee?" Dec asked, raising an eyebrow. "Coming right up, mate."
Ant smiled warmly. "You're a lifesaver, as always."
As Dec returned with two coffees, he handed one to Ant and took a seat beside him. He squeezed his friend's shoulder gently, a silent reassurance that said more than words ever could. Ant looked at him, his eyes softening, feeling the care and affection that had been their constant throughout everything.
"Thanks for checking in," Ant murmured, his hand finding Dec's. Their fingers intertwined for a moment, the small gesture grounding them both, despite the noise of the set and the busy schedule.
"Always," Dec replied. "And you know, if you ever need a break, I'm here. We can grab lunch, or just take five."
Ant chuckled. "Sounds like a plan. You're not getting away that easy though-I'll be dragging you to the snack table later."
"Can't wait," Dec said with a grin, "but first, we've got a few more hours to survive. Promise me if you need something, you'll text me again, yeah?"
"Always," Ant echoed, squeezing Dec's hand. "You know I've got you too."
As the hours passed, they continued to check in with each other-sending the occasional text just to make sure everything was okay. There were the simple things: a text asking if Dec was getting enough water, Ant noticing Dec's energy levels dipping and sending a snack his way, little gestures that kept the bond between them strong.
And when the day finally came to an end, with everyone heading home to relax, they made sure to walk out together. Their shoulders brushed as they stepped out of the building, Ant reaching for Dec's hand, a final reassurance that they were always looking after one another.
As they reached the car, Ant paused for a moment and turned to Dec.
"Ready for tomorrow?"
"Always," Dec replied, his smile warm. "Just as long as you're ready too. I've got your back, mate. Always."
And in that quiet, reassuring moment, they knew that no matter what the day had thrown at them, they would always look out for each other.
