Dec stood outside Ant's house, his heart racing with uncertainty. It had been a couple of nights since he'd last seen Ant, and he felt a subtle shift in their friendship after Ant had spent that time with Stephen. While he genuinely liked Stephen, something about their closeness made Dec feel slightly left out. He hoped that a casual hangout would help bridge the gap he felt between them.
Taking a deep breath, Dec rang the doorbell, his arms laden with snacks, drinks, and a couple of card games. The door swung open almost instantly, revealing Ant with a bright smile that instantly eased some of Dec's worries.
"Dec! Come in!" Ant stepped aside, gesturing for him to enter. Dec exhaled a relieved sigh, grateful that he hadn't been sent away. He walked inside, the familiar scent of popcorn and the faint sound of a movie playing in the background enveloping him.
"I brought snacks!" Dec announced, lifting the bags triumphantly as he headed toward the kitchen. Ant followed closely behind, his expression warm and inviting. "And a couple of card games. Thought we could do something fun."
"Sounds perfect," Ant said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "I'll set up the table."
As they settled down at the kitchen table, Ant put on a film for background noise while they played a game of UNO. The cards flew between them, laughter erupting as they played. But despite the cheerful atmosphere, Dec could feel the weight of the unspoken tension hanging in the air.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Ant suddenly asked, his gaze turning serious. Dec looked up, startled. They had always been able to read each other so well, and he couldn't hide the concern in Ant's eyes.
"Nothing's wrong," Dec replied, but the words felt hollow. After a moment's hesitation, he added, "I just... I want to strengthen our bond, you know? I feel like we've gotten a bit distant lately."
Ant's expression softened, and he leaned across the table, pulling Dec into a comforting embrace. "Oh, mate," he murmured, his voice filled with sincerity. "I love you. You're my best friend, and there's no way we're losing this friendship. You're so important to me."
Dec felt warmth spread through him at Ant's words, his heart swelling with gratitude. "I know, I just... I missed you," he admitted, feeling the tension begin to dissolve as he nestled against Ant's shoulder.
"Me too," Ant said softly, holding him tighter. "I've been busy with Stephen, but that doesn't mean I don't cherish our time together."
As they pulled back, Ant's eyes twinkled with mischief. "Now, who's winning this game? Because I'm about to turn the tables."
Dec laughed, feeling lighter. "Oh, you wish! I've got a strategy you won't see coming!"
Their playful banter resumed, the laughter and the familiar rhythm of their friendship returning. Dec realised that no matter how much time he spent worrying, the bond he shared with Ant would always withstand the test of time. The two friends were resilient, and moments like these would only make them stronger.
