It was another typical evening at work-Ant and Dec lounging on the sofa in Dec's flat, trading inside jokes that only years of friendship could cultivate. Their laughter echoed warmly, filling the room like sunlight on a crisp winter morning. For anyone else, the scene would be comfortingly routine, but Stephen's mind was elsewhere tonight, a restless buzz pulling him out of the moment.
His phone lay next to him, the screen dark but never out of reach. He'd been texting Liliana all day, their exchanges as fleeting as her gruelling tour schedule allowed. It wasn't enough-not the brief messages or the occasional photo of her beaming in some faraway city. He missed her. Missed the quiet, the laughter, the magnetic pull of her presence. But tonight, his longing was laced with something else-a hum of anticipation he couldn't quite shake.
As the evening stretched on, Stephen's restlessness won out. He stood, his movements hurried and a touch clumsy. "I think I'm going to head home early," he announced, trying to keep his voice steady.
Ant looked up from his phone, his brow quirked. "You alright, mate?"
"Yeah," Stephen replied, already grabbing his jacket. "Just need an early night, I think."
Dec exchanged a knowing glance with Ant, but neither pressed. "We'll catch you tomorrow, then," Dec said with a wave, his expression tinged with amusement.
Stephen barely registered their words as he stepped out into the cool night air, his heart pounding in a rhythm that felt louder with each step.
When he reached his flat, he paused. Something was different. Music drifted through the door-not just any music, but the unmistakable harmonies of Pentatonix. His heart skipped, then raced as realisation dawned. He turned back to Ant and Dec, who had followed out of curiosity and a little worry about their 'brother'.
"Do you hear that?" Stephen's voice was barely above a whisper, brimming with disbelief.
Ant and Dec stopped in their tracks, glancing at each other before focusing on him. "What's up?" Ant asked, his playful grin fading into curiosity.
But Stephen didn't answer. He stepped inside, his movements quick and deliberate, drawn toward the music like a moth to flame.
The kitchen light spilled softly into the hallway, and as Stephen rounded the corner, he saw her.
Liliana.
She stood at the counter, completely absorbed in preparing dinner, her movements a graceful dance. The warm kitchen light bathed her in a golden glow, her long hair cascading over one shoulder. She hummed softly, the sound so familiar it tightened something in Stephen's chest.
"Liliana," he breathed, his voice catching in his throat.
She turned, startled at first, but her surprise melted into a radiant smile. Before she could say a word, Stephen crossed the room and wrapped her in his arms, pulling her close as though he might wake up if he let go. The scent of her-fresh, floral, utterly her-filled his senses, grounding him.
"You're here," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion as he pressed his face into her shoulder.
Liliana's laughter was soft and melodic. She leaned back against him, her hands coming to rest over his. "Hi, baby," she said warmly, tilting her head to meet his gaze. "Miss me?"
Stephen's laughter bubbled out, unrestrained and full of joy. "You have no idea," he said, his voice a mix of awe and disbelief. "What are you doing here? I thought-"
"The tour got delayed," she explained, cutting him off with a playful grin. "Something about flights and weather. So, I thought, why not surprise you? I missed you, too."
Their moment was broken by the unmistakable sound of someone clearing their throat. Stephen turned, still holding Liliana, to see Ant and Dec standing in the doorway.
"Well, this is unexpected," Dec quipped, his brow raised and his tone dripping with amusement.
Stephen stepped back, his cheeks flushed. "Uh... Ant, Dec, this is Liliana. My wife."
"Your wife?" Ant exclaimed, his expression a mix of shock and glee. "Stephen, mate, you're full of surprises."
Liliana stepped forward with a warm smile, extending her hand. "Hi, it's so nice to finally meet you both. I've heard so much about you."
Dec took her hand, still gaping. "Clearly not as much as we should've heard about you."
Ant laughed, clapping Stephen on the back. "Explains why you've been so annoyingly happy lately."
The evening unfolded with an effortless ease. Liliana's cooking won over Ant and Dec immediately, and her quick wit had them in stitches as they traded stories over dinner. The kitchen filled with warmth and laughter, a perfect blend of two worlds finally coming together.
As the meal wound down, Stephen raised his glass, his eyes locked on Liliana's. "To us. To surprises. And to coming home."
Liliana's fingers intertwined with his under the table. "To many more surprises," she said softly, her smile radiant.
Ant and Dec raised their glasses with matching grins. "Here's to Liliana," Ant declared. "You've got our seal of approval."
"And you're going to love meeting Ali and Anne-Marie," Dec added with a wink.
Stephen's heart swelled as he took in the scene-the people he loved most, together at last. This wasn't just a good moment. It was everything.
