Stephen stood in the doorway, watching Ant and Dec cuddle up on the couch, their laughter filling the room like a soft melody. Ant had his arm draped around Dec's shoulders, and Dec was resting his head on Ant's chest, his fingers tracing absentminded patterns on his leg. It was clear they were in their own world, so caught up in each other's company that they didn't even notice Stephen's quiet entrance.
For a moment, Stephen stood frozen, a pang of something unfamiliar twisting in his chest. But then, with a dramatic sigh, he pushed himself off the door frame and sauntered into the room, forcing a perfect pout to settle on his lips.
"Well, I see how it is," he said in a laden voice with mock hurt, folding his arms across his chest. "Two boyfriends, completely ignoring their poor, lonely third wheel boyfriend." His words were dripping with exaggeration, every syllable stretched to the point of theatrical absurdity. "I suppose I'll just have to spend the rest of my days all alone, crying in a corner. Absolutely no one cares about poor Stephen."
He gave a little sniff, dramatically wiping away a pretend tear from his eye. He could feel Ant and Dec's eyes on him, but he refused to look at them-he was fully committed to the act now.
Ant glanced over at Dec, his lips twitching into a smirk. "Oh, no. Did you hear that, Dec?" he said, his voice low and playful. "We've gone and forgotten about Stephen. How awful of us."
"I know," Dec replied, his tone matching Ant's teasing, but his eyes glimmered with amusement. "We've been so neglectful. I think we need to make it up to him, don't you?"
Stephen could hear the sarcasm dripping from their words, but he doubled down on his dramatics. He spun on his heel, flopping down onto the nearest armchair with a sigh that could rival an Oscar-worthy performance. "Yes, yes, it's too late now. I'm already too far gone. You'll never find me again in this vast, empty house. I'll just-" He flung his arm out, as if collapsing into the abyss of loneliness. "I'll just live out my days here, unloved and forgotten, like some tragic character in a book no one ever reads."
He sighed deeply, letting his head loll back against the chair as if he were about to sink into an endless sea of misery.
Ant and Dec exchanged a quick glance, and before Stephen could even finish his dramatic monologue, they both moved at once.
"Oh, we can't let that happen, can we, Dec?" Ant asked, his voice thick with playful concern as he stood and strode toward Stephen. "I mean, losing Stephen to despair? That's just... tragic."
"Absolutely tragic," Dec agreed, his voice dripping with mock sorrow. "We've got to do something."
Stephen, still feigning distress, didn't see them closing in on him until it was too late.
"Stephen!" Ant cried out in mock horror, just as Dec jumped over the back of the chair, landing on Stephen's side with a dramatic flourish. In the blink of an eye, Ant had pounced on the other side, his arms wrapping around Stephen's waist and pulling him into a tight, almost crushing embrace.
Before Stephen could even protest, Dec leaned in, showering his face with rapid kisses-first his cheeks, then his forehead, and then his nose.
"No, no, please! I'm-" Stephen tried to squirm away, but the more he moved, the tighter Ant's grip became, and the more kisses rained down from Dec. "I was just-oh, you-stop! I'm trying to suffer here!" He let out a loud, exaggerated gasp, pressing his hand to his forehead. "I was trying to be tragic! A lonely soul! Do you not care for my artistic flair? My tortured heart?"
Ant pulled back just enough to look Stephen in the eye, his face serious for a split second before he burst into laughter. "No, we do care, Stephen," he teased, a wicked grin spreading across his face. "But that was a bit much, don't you think?"
"You definitely need a dose of love, little one," Dec added, pressing a kiss to Stephen's temple, just to send him into another fit of giggles. "Clearly, you're just starving for attention. Is that it?"
Stephen scoffed, still trying to look put out, but his grin was impossible to hide. "I'm starving for affection," he huffed, still flailing slightly. "Starving! And you two are just-"
But he was cut off when Ant bent down and pressed his lips firmly to Stephen's cheek, catching him completely off guard. The kiss lingered for a second, soft and full of affection, before he pulled away with a satisfied look on his face.
"Is that better, baby boy?" Ant asked sweetly, using the nickname that always made Stephen melt just a little.
"Mm-hmm," Stephen murmured, no longer able to keep up the act. "Fine, fine. You're right, I'm loved, I'm overwhelmed with affection. Happy now?"
Dec grinned and placed one last gentle kiss to Stephen's cheek before leaning in close, whispering, "Just making sure, little one." Then, as if sensing that Stephen was fully surrendered, Dec nestled into his side, his hand resting on Stephen's shoulder like he belonged there.
Ant wrapped his arm around Stephen's waist, pulling him close into a tight embrace. "We're sorry we neglected you, babe," he murmured, his voice warm and soft. "You're too precious to ever be forgotten."
Stephen let out a contented sigh as he nestled into their arms, his sarcasm finally melting away into something real. "Okay, okay. You win. I'm adored. Can we just stay like this for a bit?"
"Of course," Ant replied, placing a kiss on his forehead. "We're not letting you go, you big drama queen."
Dec chuckled, his voice low and affectionate as he squeezed Stephen tightly. "You'll never be alone. Not as long as we're here."
And for once, Stephen didn't feel lonely at all. Wrapped in their arms, surrounded by their love, he felt like the luckiest person in the world.
