The late morning sun streamed faintly through the curtains, casting soft golden light onto the bed where Dec was nestled comfortably under the covers. His eyelids were heavy, teetering on the edge of sleep when the sound of quiet footsteps reached his ears. He opened one eye to find Stephen standing at the door, his expression a mixture of concern and hesitation.
"Everything alright, love?" Dec mumbled, his voice thick with sleep.
Stephen nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Just wanted to check on you. You looked so tired earlier."
Dec patted the bed beside him with a sleepy grin. "Come here, then. Don't just stand there like a stranger."
Stephen hesitated for only a moment before climbing into bed, settling beside his eldest boyfriend. Dec's arm immediately wrapped around him, pulling him close. They lay there quietly for a moment, their breaths syncing as Stephen pressed his forehead to Dec's.
"You always know how to make me feel safe," Stephen whispered.
Dec chuckled softly. "That's my job, isn't it? You're a part of me, Stevie."
They exchanged soft, murmured words, their conversation like a gentle tide-peaceful and easy. But their tranquillity was shattered ten minutes later when the bedroom door swung open with dramatic flair.
Ant stood in the doorway, his arms crossed, a faux pout firmly on his face. "Well, I see how it is," he began, his voice tinged with mock indignation. "Here I am, freezing to death, alone, unwanted, and neglected while my two boyfriends are cuddled up all cosy without me!"
Stephen stifled a laugh against Dec's shoulder, while Dec let out a long, tired sigh. "Ant, love, it's far too early for your theatrics."
"Early? It's practically afternoon!" Ant continued, clutching his chest as if mortally wounded. "But no, don't mind me. I'll just leave. Clearly, I'm not needed here."
Dec groaned, dragging himself out of the warmth of the bed with a look of exasperated fondness. He shuffled over to Ant, stopping him mid-gesture with a tired embrace. Ant's arms instinctively wrapped around him, his dramatic facade faltering as Dec pressed a gentle kiss to his neck.
"You're ridiculous," Dec murmured against his skin, his voice soft but affectionate.
Ant's face softened entirely as he cupped Dec's cheek. "And you love me for it."
Dec rolled his eyes, too sleepy to argue, as Ant scooped him up effortlessly. "Alright, back to bed with you," Ant declared, carrying him with care. He placed Dec back onto the mattress as softly as he possibly could, where Stephen eagerly welcomed him back into the cocoon of blankets, wrapping his arms around him from behind.
Ant crawled into bed beside them, his earlier dramatics completely forgotten as Stephen leaned over to kiss him softly on the lips. Ant's hand found Stephen's, squeezing it gently as Dec, nestled against Ant's chest, muttered, "Stop being dramatic and just stay with us."
Ant grinned, pressing a kiss to the top of Dec's head. "I wouldn't dream of being anywhere else."
The three of them settled into the warmth of the bed, Dec dosing off between his boyfriends while Ant and Stephen whispered softly to each other. Their voices were low and soothing, the topics unimportant, just an exchange of affection and shared laughter.
Eventually, even Ant and Stephen succumbed to the cosiness of the moment, their words trailing off into contented silence. As the early afternoon passed, they napped together, wrapped in each other's arms, the world outside forgotten in the warmth of their love.
