Ant and Dec's friendship was the kind that transcended words. Decades together had only deepened the bond they shared, making them feel as if they were two halves of the same soul. They knew each other's quirks, worries, and joys inside out, and there was an effortless warmth and closeness between them that made every shared moment feel like home. They were each other's family, and though they didn't need to say "I love you" often, they did so anyway, because it mattered.
One Saturday morning, Ant surprised Dec by coming over early with coffee in hand. Dec opened the door, still in his pyjamas, and blinked in surprise at his best friend, who held out a steaming cup and a big grin.
"Couldn't let you start the day without me, could I?" Ant teased.
Dec chuckled, taking the coffee and pulling Ant into a warm hug. "You soft git," he murmured affectionately, holding him just a bit longer than usual. "Thanks, mate. Really. It's the little things that you always seem to get just right."
They spent the morning chatting over breakfast, laughing as Ant attempted to make pancakes, resulting in a half-burned mess. Dec just shook his head, amused, but he ate every bite with a smile. When they finally finished, Dec gave Ant a playful nudge and said, "I love you, you know that? Breakfast disasters and all."
Ant blushed slightly but met Dec's gaze with a soft smile. "Love you too, Dec. Wouldn't be anywhere else."
Later that afternoon, they took Hurley and Rocky to the park. They walked side by side along the tree-lined path, their shoulders brushing as they strolled. Rocky tugged at Dec's leash, and Hurley bounded around, tail wagging, clearly thrilled to be out with his two favourite people.
They found a spot near the lake where the dogs could splash in the water, and Ant spread out a blanket for them to sit on. Dec leaned back, looking up at the clear blue sky, feeling utterly content with Ant right there beside him.
"Can you believe how lucky we are?" Dec said, gazing out at the water. "To get to share all this-life, work, everything?"
Ant smiled, nodding. "No one else I'd want to do it all with, Dec. I mean that." He reached over and squeezed Dec's hand, his thumb tracing gentle circles. "Thank you... for always being there."
Dec squeezed back, resting his head on Ant's shoulder. "Thank you, mate. Don't know how I'd get through half of life's messes without you by my side."
They sat like that for a while, wrapped up in each other's warmth, watching Hurley and Rocky play together. Occasionally, Ant would press a kiss to Dec's temple, and Dec would chuckle, giving Ant's arm a gentle squeeze.
A few days later, at the studio, Ant decided to surprise Dec by bringing his favourite snacks during a long filming break. Dec looked up, surprised and touched, as Ant held out the snacks with a shy smile.
"You remembered," Dec said, a warmth spreading through him. He reached out, giving Ant a hug that lingered just a bit longer than usual. "I swear, mate, you're the best part of my life."
Ant laughed softly, his hand resting on Dec's back. "You're everything to me too, Dec. And if bringing you crisps and chocolate makes your day, then I'll do it every day."
Dec leaned back, looking into Ant's eyes with a smile that spoke volumes. "You don't have to say it, but... I love you, Ant. Truly. There's no one like you."
That evening, after work, Ant invited Dec over for a movie night. They settled onto the couch, cosy under a shared blanket with bowls of popcorn in their laps. As the movie played, Ant found himself absently holding Dec's hand, their fingers intertwined. There was something simple yet profound in that touch, a reminder of how close they were and how deeply they cared for one another.
During a particularly touching scene, Dec rested his head on Ant's shoulder, closing his eyes. "You're the best part of my life, you know that?" he murmured.
Ant pressed a kiss to the top of Dec's head, his hand squeezing Dec's gently. "I'm lucky I get to be," he replied softly.
As the movie ended, Dec looked up at Ant, a gentle smile on his face. "You've given me more than you could ever know, Ant. Thank you... for everything."
Ant hugged him tightly, a deep warmth filling his chest. "No need to thank me, Dec. You're... you're my world, you know?"
They both sat in comfortable silence, letting their words sink in, feeling how deeply they were connected.
The next morning, Dec woke up first and, seeing Ant still asleep beside him on the couch, leaned over to give him a soft kiss on the forehead. He watched as Ant stirred, blinking sleepily up at him with a gentle smile.
"Morning," Dec whispered.
Ant stretched, his hand reaching for Dec's. "Morning, love," he replied, his voice still heavy with sleep. They stayed like that for a few minutes, basking in the quiet intimacy of the moment before Dec pulled him up, insisting they go make breakfast together.
Over the next week, they kept making little gestures that reminded each other of their love and appreciation. Ant left a note in Dec's bag one day, just a simple "Love you, mate, don't forget that." Dec found it during lunch and, with a smile, texted Ant a quick "Right back at you."
On Friday evening, they took the dogs for another walk, laughing as Hurley and Rocky chased each other through the fallen leaves. At one point, Dec slipped his hand into Ant's, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"Thank you for always being there," Dec said, his voice filled with warmth.
Ant pulled Dec close, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "Always will be, Dec. That's a promise."
