It had been a few weeks since Stephen noticed the sweet nicknames Ant and Dec had taken to calling each other. It was always something tender, like "love" or "babe," and Stephen couldn't help but smile every time he heard them. It made their bond seem so special, and the affection in those simple words was something he longed to feel.
So, one evening while Ant and Dec were busy, Stephen came up with his own nicknames for them. He'd been thinking about it for days, deciding that he wanted something equally as sweet but with his own twist. He grinned to himself as he finally settled on the perfect ones.
The opportunity came the next evening when Dec was in the bathroom, humming to himself as he got ready. Stephen saw his moment. He crept up behind Ant, who was lounging on the couch, absorbed in his phone. Without a word, Stephen bent over the back of the sofa, wrapping his arms around Ant's waist and hugging him tightly from behind.
Ant jumped slightly, not expecting the sudden closeness, but he smiled instantly when he saw it was Stephen. "Hey, you," Ant said, turning his head slightly, only to be met with Stephen leaning closer.
"Hey, love," Stephen whispered softly in his ear, pressing a gentle kiss to Ant's temple.
Ant's face turned a soft shade of pink, and he chuckled nervously. "What was that?"
Stephen smirked, pulling back just enough to look Ant in the eye. "Just a little something I came up with. What do you think?"
Ant's heart fluttered in his chest. "You're a bit cheeky, you know that?"
Stephen grinned, "You can call me whatever you want, but I think it suits you, my little 'love-bug.'"
Ant laughed, though there was a slight flush to his cheeks that told Stephen he had really caught him off guard. "'Love-bug,' huh? I suppose that's not so bad," Ant said with a grin, rubbing the back of his neck.
Stephen winked. "I think it fits you perfectly."
Dec came out of the bathroom at that moment, rolling his eyes playfully at the sight. "What's all this about, then?"
Before Ant could say anything, Stephen, feeling mischievous, walked over to Dec, pulling him into his chest gently. Ant left the room as he did so. He ran his fingers through Dec's hair, softly massaging his scalp as he whispered, "Hey, my little 'sunshine.'"
Dec froze, looking up at Stephen in surprise. His eyes widened, lips parting in disbelief. "Sunshine?" he repeated, his voice laced with both shock and something more soft-tender, even.
Stephen nodded with a smirk, pulling Dec in tighter. "Yeah. Perfect for you. You always bring a little light to my day."
For a moment, Dec simply melted into the embrace, feeling an unexpected warmth settle in his chest. "You're ridiculous," he murmured, but there was a softness in his tone that made Stephen smile.
Ant, who had been watching with a teasing grin, walked back into the room, holding a tray of snacks for their movie night. "Looks like Stephen's been busy getting a nickname for everyone," he said, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "You got Dec too, then?"
Stephen just raised an eyebrow, his smirk widening. "Of course I did. I'm the nickname king around here," he declared with mock pride. "I'm the winner."
Both Ant and Dec exchanged amused glances, shaking their heads. But later, as they snuggled down together on the couch for their movie night, wrapped in blankets with popcorn in hand, it was clear that the nicknames had stuck. Stephen called Ant "love-bug" and Dec "sunshine" whenever they were together, and the affection in those names became a permanent part of their lives.
Even a month later, those sweet nicknames had become second nature. Ant and Dec were never without their little terms of endearment from Stephen, and Stephen, for his part, basked in the warmth they provided. They had become just another way for them to express how much they truly meant to each other, a reminder of the love that was shared among them.
And whenever Stephen would call them those names, a quiet warmth would fill the room, and they'd all smile, knowing that no matter what happened, they were together-family, in every sense of the word.
