The hum of the ITV studios buzzed with the energy of production, but for Stephen, it felt more like a whirlpool dragging him under. Between rehearsals and filming, he had been pushing himself harder than ever. It was during one particularly hectic week that Ant and Dec noticed the shadows forming under Stephen's eyes and the subtle tension in his shoulders.
On Tuesday afternoon, Ant knocked on Stephen's office door, peeking his head in. "Hey, mate, how about a walk? We could use some fresh air, and you look like you could use a break."
Stephen looked up, a half-hearted smile forming. "I'm fine, really. Just a bit busy."
"Busy is good, but you know what's even better?" Dec chimed in, stepping inside with a large bag filled with snacks. "Not overworking yourself. We brought you some treats!" He revealed an assortment of Stephen's favourites: chocolate bars, crisps, and a refreshing drink.
With a sigh, Stephen stood, surrendering to their enthusiasm. "Okay, you win. A short walk sounds nice."
As they strolled outside, the crisp air felt rejuvenating, and Stephen found himself unwinding, laughing at Ant's silly impressions and Dec's witty quips. By the time they returned to the studio, Stephen felt lighter, a warmth spreading through him from the simple joy of companionship.
The next day, Ant and Dec arrived at Stephen's house unannounced, movie night supplies in hand. "We could just feel you needed this," Ant said, nudging Stephen playfully. "You've been working too hard, and we're here to help you forget about it all."
Stephen chuckled, touched by their thoughtfulness. "You guys really are the best. Let me make some popcorn." He hurried to the kitchen, where he prepared a big bowl of buttery goodness, eager to give back to his friends who had been looking after him.
As they settled on the couch, the film played in the background, but the true comfort lay in the warmth of their closeness. Stephen nestled against Ant's side, sighing contentedly as Dec wrapped an arm around both of them. "I love this," Stephen whispered, his heart swelling with appreciation.
On Thursday, the trio made a routine of it. After a long day of filming, Ant and Dec showed up with dinner from Stephen's favourite restaurant. "You need to eat well," Dec said, setting the feast on the table. "And don't think we'll let you skip dessert!"
They spent the evening sharing stories, laughter, and sweet moments. Stephen felt cared for in ways he hadn't realised he needed. As he leaned into Dec for a comforting hug, he felt a deep sense of love enveloping him, one that assured him he was never alone in his struggles.
In turn, Stephen made it a point to look after Ant and Dec. During the next filming break, he snuck into their shared office with snacks he'd prepared himself. "You two need to eat too!" he said, beaming as he set down the plates. "And take breaks! I'll make sure our assistant brings you drinks, just let me know what you want."
Ant and Dec exchanged amused glances, touched by Stephen's thoughtfulness. "You're a gem, you know that?" Ant said, ruffling Stephen's hair affectionately.
"More like a baby boy," Dec teased, earning a playful shove from Stephen. But inside, Stephen glowed at the affection, appreciating their playful banter.
As the days turned into weeks, the bond between them grew stronger. Stephen found himself seeking out cuddles more often, curling up next to Ant or Dec whenever they were together. The feeling of being cherished became intoxicating, and he loved every moment of it.
One evening, as they were winding down from a long week, Stephen texted both Ant and Dec: Just wanted to say I love you guys. Thank you for always being there for me. Let me know if you need anything!
Within moments, their replies flooded in. Ant's was quick and lighthearted: Love you too! You keep us going! Dec's was more heartfelt: You make everything better, little bro. Don't forget to take care of yourself too!
Feeling fulfilled, Stephen smiled to himself. He hadn't just found friendship; he'd found a family that genuinely cared. And as they all cuddled on the couch that night, surrounded by snacks and laughter, he knew he would do everything he could to make sure they felt just as loved and appreciated as he did.
In a world that could often feel overwhelming, Ant and Dec had become his safe haven. Together, they navigated the chaos, each bite of popcorn and shared laugh reinforcing the deep connection they had forged. They were more than just friends; they were each other's home.
