A hip labral tear involves the ring of cartilage (labrum) that follows the outside rim of the hip joint socket. Besides cushioning the hip joint, the labrum acts like a rubber seal or gasket to help hold the ball at the top of the thighbone securely within the hip socket.

Sunghoon had always been tough. Years of figure skating had taught him to push through pain, to ignore the dull aches and focus on the goal ahead. So when he first felt a sharp twinge in his hip during practice, he brushed it off.
"Just a little sore," he mumbled to himself, rolling his shoulder as if that would make a difference.
The group was in the middle of intense preparations for their upcoming comeback. Everyone was exhausted, bodies sore from hours of rehearsals, so he didn't think much of it. But as the days passed, the pain worsened.
He limped slightly after long practice sessions, wincing when he thought no one was looking. But someone always was.
"Hyung, are you okay?" Sunoo asked one day, eyes filled with concern.
"I'm fine," Sunghoon answered quickly, forcing a smile. "Just tired."
The others noticed too. Jungwon frowned when he saw Sunghoon take longer than usual to stand up after a break. Heeseung raised an eyebrow when Sunghoon hesitated before attempting a high jump.
"Dude, if you're hurt, you should say something," Jay said one evening, crossing his arms.
"I'm not hurt," Sunghoon insisted, shrugging it off. "I'd tell you if I was."
But he didn't.
As the comeback drew closer, Sunghoon's movements became stiffer. His steps faltered, his energy seemed off, and his usual sharpness in dance dulled.
And some of the members started to notice—but not in the way he'd hoped.
"He's totally dragging today," Jake muttered after another practice. "I get that we're all tired, but he seems... I don't know, off."
"Maybe he's just being lazy," Ni-ki said, frowning. "He keeps messing up the choreo, but then acts like nothing's wrong."
"Or maybe he just doesn't want to admit he's slacking," Jay added, frustration clear in his tone.
Even Jungwon, their leader, had started getting irritated. He didn't want to call Sunghoon out, but it was affecting the group's performance.
"Hyung, if you can't keep up, you need to tell us," he finally said after a rough practice session.
Sunghoon clenched his jaw. "I'm fine."
No one pushed further. Instead, doubt lingered in the air, creating an invisible wall between him and the others.
It happened during their pre-recording.
They were on their last run-through when Sunghoon's body betrayed him.
As he landed from a turn, a searing pain shot through his hip, sending him crashing to the floor. The music stopped, staff rushed over, and the members froze in shock.
Sunghoon bit his lip, trying to push himself up, but his leg wouldn't cooperate. Panic settled in his chest.
"Sunghoon!" Heeseung was the first to kneel beside him. "What happened?"
"I... I don't know." His voice was shaky.
The staff insisted on taking him to the hospital, and for the first time, Sunghoon didn't argue. The pain was unbearable now.
As he was helped out of the venue, he caught a glimpse of the members' faces—shock, worry, and something else. Guilt.

The diagnosis was worse than he had expected.
"A labral tear in your hip," the doctor explained. "You've likely been dealing with it for weeks, if not longer. It's serious, Sunghoon. You need surgery."
His heart dropped.
The thought of stopping, of sitting out promotions, was terrifying. But the worst part was knowing he had ignored the warning signs—had let himself, and his group, down.
When he returned to the dorm, the atmosphere was heavy.
"You should've told us," Jungwon said quietly, his voice filled with regret.
"I thought it wasn't that bad," Sunghoon admitted, looking down.
"We thought you were faking," Jake murmured, guilt clear in his eyes. "I feel like an idiot."
"Me too," Jay muttered. "We should've believed you."
Sunghoon exhaled, feeling a lump in his throat. "It's not your fault. I kept pretending I was fine."
"But we're supposed to have each other's backs," Heeseung said firmly. "Next time, don't hide it from us. No matter what."
For the first time in weeks, Sunghoon felt a weight lift off his shoulders.

The surgery went well, but recovery would take time.
During his rehab, the members visited constantly, bringing him food, cracking jokes, and even practicing in his hospital room so he wouldn't feel left out.
"We'll wait for you," Jungwon promised one night, sitting beside him.
Sunghoon smiled, eyes shining.
"Thanks," he whispered. "For everything."
And for the first time in a long while, he didn't feel alone.
