1200 words.
Jun wasn't the type to demand attention. He had never needed to be the loudest in the room, never sought the spotlight with the same hunger some of the others did. He was content dancing in the corner, quietly perfecting his lines, laughing when someone else cracked a joke. That was enough for him.
Until, slowly, it wasn't.
It started subtly. A missed "good morning" from the dorm group chat. No big deal. People got busy. Then Hoshi started inviting only Minghao to late-night dance practices. Jun waited up one night, hopeful, his phone in hand. Midnight passed. Then 1 a.m. He never got the text.
Breakfasts became quieter. He used to eat with Seungkwan or Joshua in the kitchen, chatting about random dramas or music. Now he'd walk in to find empty plates, remnants of laughter, and no one asking where he'd been. Once or twice, he thought they just forgot to knock on his door. But when he overheard Dino mentioning, "Everyone's here, right?" while passing out takeout — and no one corrected him — the silence grew louder.
It was the small things, really.
Hoshi stopped pulling him to the front during practice for corrections. Jeonghan began choosing Vernon or Woozi for V-Lives instead of rotating like they used to. They'd watch a movie together in the common room, and Jun would enter just as the lights dimmed — no one saving him a spot. He sat behind them on the floor, arms around his knees, telling himself it was fine. He didn't need to be in the center to feel included.
Except... he did. Or maybe he just needed someone to notice.
He asked Minghao one evening, cautiously, "Did I do something?"
Minghao blinked, caught off-guard. "What? No, why?"
Jun gave a small smile. "Nothing. Just wondering."
Minghao didn't press. He never did.
He started skipping meals. First just breakfast. Then dinner, too. Sometimes lunch if they were busy enough. No one seemed to notice. No one asked. Maybe they assumed he'd eaten earlier, or was out with staff. Maybe they didn't assume anything at all.
He told himself it didn't matter. That he was just being sensitive. But the ache in his chest didn't agree. Nor did the growing hollowness in his stomach.
The worst part wasn't the absence of words — it was when they did speak to him, but it was out of politeness, not care. "Can you pass me that?" "You ready?" "Good job." It wasn't the same. Not like it used to be. Not like family.
One night, he stood outside the practice room, watching through the glass as the others laughed, drenched in sweat, teasing each other with familiarity. He saw the way Hoshi threw an arm around Mingyu, the way Seungkwan dramatically reenacted a dance move while the others howled. No one looked toward the door.
Jun turned and walked away.
He didn't sleep much after that. His ribs started to show more than usual, his eyes always rimmed in exhaustion. Still, he showed up for practice. Still, he danced like nothing was wrong — until one day, he couldn't.
It happened fast. One moment he was turning, the next his vision tunneled, and the world tilted.
"Jun..!"
The music stopped. Someone screamed. He collapsed mid-spin, knees hitting the floor with a dull thud before his body followed.
The members froze, stunned. It was Joshua who dropped his mic first. Minghao who rushed to his side with shaking hands. Hoshi who looked like he'd seen a ghost.
"Hyung?" Dino's voice cracked.
The room buzzed with panic as they surrounded him, calling his name. He didn't answer.
